So, at my high school, they are redoing they way they schedule all the classes or something. And long story short, my class choices sort of got screwed over...

Okay first, here are the classes I am for sure taking...
AFJROTC
AP Gov/Econ (each a semester course)
AP Calculus
AP Literature

Now originally I was going to take AP Computer Science. But because of the conflicts, I cannot. I've looked over the course catalog and here are the options I came up with....

AP Biology (I'm not really interested in biology and I'm not sure how that would help with chem and physics the first year at the academy)
Geography 2/Cultural Anthropology (each a semester course)
AP World History (I've already taken regular world and AP US. Another option is AP World History but I've heard it is a lot of busy work.)
AP Statistics (I don't know if my counselor would allow this in addition to AP Calc, especially with the numbers, however I don't think I'd have a problem completing the work for both classes.)

If anyone could give me some opinions or insight it would be greatly appreciated. I'll also post this in the USNA thread to see if there are any differences.

hello!
hmmm. I'm a rising senior too and my insight would be AP Stat. You definitely should take one of the AP courses, and AP stat seems good if your counselor lets you take it. If not, then AP Bio because you've already taken World history stuff, plus Bio will help diversify your courses. But if you really enjoy math, then push for Stat.
Hope this kind of helps.

The thing is that I've also taken Bio stuff. I took college prep Biology my freshman year.

I don't know. I couldn't hurt to do another AP course like Bio if you've already taken a college prep. But my ranking insight would be:
1. AP Stat
2. Ap Bio
3. Ap Hist
4. Geo 2/ Anthropology

Yeah. I probably have to talk to my counselor. That last class isn't just a fun slacker course. It is college prep.

You'll have to take statistics at USAFA. Even if you can't validate it, it would be much easier if you'd already taken AP Stats in HS.

Curious as to how your HS does econ and gov...

Typically AP Econ is two semesters. First semester is macro, second semester is micro. AP Gov first semester is comparative, second is US gov.

I'm not a math/science person, and did well in stats (took it at the local college). I liked that it actually had words, and I could apply it to my everyday life.

I'm honestly not sure how they do it. This is the first year of it at my school. However, I know that they are each semester courses. I've never really had a problem with math. It comes easily and I really like it.

stick with science and/or math. That is what USAFA cares most about. You will end up taking the history that USAFA requires no matter what anyway.

I might be tempted to advise the Statistics course as well, but I find the Geography compelling. So many kids are geographically challenged and many are not willing to learn this on their own. Can you take the Geography one semester and either the gov or econ the second?

Do your parents have opinions on this topic? Can you take anything at a local community college?

I talked to my counselor today, and AP Calc and AP Stat are the same period. So that's a no go. My choice is the Geography 2/Cultural Anthropology courses, or AP Bio. Is there even a biology requirement at USAFA?

From what I've heard, the Geo/Anthro is an incredibly interesting class. I do currently have a free period so in theory I could do both bio and geo/anthro. However, I'm away from home 12 hours a day, and really could use that extra hour to study or workout.

My parents don't really have an opinion. They kind of are just happy with whatever I do and know that I am able to make decisions for my education. There are available classes at the community college, but I live 30+ miles away from my high school and the community college. It just wouldn't be practical.

You don't sound very excited about AP Bio. If I were you, I'd take the Geo/Anthro class (if I'm correct in thinking that this is the one you think sounds like more fun).
