In a shameless effort to drive traffic to my blog, and at the request of OCJosh, here is a link to my blog, and the posting that outlines the dates for the upcoming Army ROTC scholarship boards. While you are there, feel free to look around. Good luck to all the applicants!

Army ROTC scholarship board dates 2010-2011

Only three Army ROTC boards? Wow! Times are a changing.

Holly Crap!! October 25th is the first selection board! Im going to go insane...I've already finished all my application and it is complete and ready for Selection. It drive's me crazy that i have to wait, im a person that just wants things to get done asap! But oh well...Does anyone know what happens if you apply earlier? As in do the earlier finished applicants get their applications looked at before say someone who finishes right before the deadline?

I heard that those that finish their ROTC apps early are at a serious disadvantage. Supposedly this earlier submit date gives the ROTC people more time to really pour over every detail of your application and to double or even triple check all the details. In addition, they (the AROTC) take a very dim look at the students that have so much time on their hands that they are able to finish and submit their applications early. I guess the consensus is that these students should be spending more time involved in ECs and sports and less time in front of a computer filling out applications. Good luck anyway.

Just kidding. Sorry couldn't resist. You're better off finishing early than waiting. :thumb:

Submitting early doesn't really help. October 25th, a group of Lieutenant Colonels will sit in a room and look at each file that is "board ready". They will assign those files a score, and then someone will decide the minimum score to generate enough offers for the first round. The rest of the files will get piled up and held for the next board. They won't be rescored. The new board ready files will be scored by the next board, and the process will be repeated.

Hang in there Justin...use that extra energy to get ready to max the PT test when you start college a year from now.

Good luck everyone.

Good call (linking to your blog).

Good content on the blog.

3 boards make a lot more sense as it gives CC adequate time to reprocess the scholarship slots turned down in the previous board before having to assign them out to the awardees in the next board.

Any word on the number of scholarships this year or the number of applications to date? Last year was particularly competitive (reduced number of scholarships and increase in applications). I suspect more of the same for this year.

Clarkson looks gorgeous, first time I have heard of it, unfortunately my son's priorities are No snow and Big time football:confused:
(I hate football, love to ski)

Glad you like the blog, Goaliedad. I'm kind of proud of it, and it saves typing the same answers to questions over and over. 3 boards definitely simplifies things. Last year was painful. No word on allocations (I expect them to be the same as last year), and 2907 applications to date in the system. My list is a little bigger than in years past at this time, which is a good thing.

Gojack - Clarkson is gorgeous. We don't get a ton of snow, but what falls sticks around because it's cold here. Hockey is the sport. It's not big time football, but I feel it puts football to shame (I'm sure I'll get a second from Goaliedad).

We are also an hour away from Lake Placid and Whiteface (the Olympic ski hill).

Good luck to your boy.

I found the town of Potsdam to be charming. Not a lot of amenities (the Clarkson Inn is the only good hotel in town), but that is not what the town is about. I found the drive over (coming from Plattsburgh) to be quite beautiful, especially the view over the St. Lawrence. As small cities in NY go, it is definitely one of the better ones.

Goaliegirl liked Clarkson's campus, but she's not the technical major type and preferred the D3 level of athletic commitment (not to mention that Clarkson's women's team is stacked in goal). SUNY Potsdam's goalie situation wasn't favorable (they seem to have their starting sophomore groomed for this year - Eau Claire's situation is wide open) although I understand the coach was asking about goaliegirl early last year. Potsdam's academic campus (while entirely practical being connected indoors) left her kind of cold architecturally and the campus didn't have the landscape interest of Clarkson or other schools she liked better.

Yes, I saw the hockey post before I made the first comment.

And yes, we like hockey more than football. I definitely think hockey players have to be the best all-around athletes between strength, stamina, skill, and courage. Goaliegirl can tell you that there is never a bad day on the ice.

This summer she's been (finally allowed to because she's 18) playing in the Men's league. Because she was late coming home from boarding school, she got to be fill-in goalie for all leagues (teams had already been selected). Got to play with the local retired minor leaguers against the college club team and did quite well. Even got to play some as a player in the B league playoffs (all the goalies were back), collecting a couple of assists and drawing a checking penalty in one game (no check league) when a 6' 4" guy pasted her along the boards. No worry for her. More disappointed that they lost.
