Can someone please describe the weekend activities on campus? I realize the C4C's rarely get off campus, but what about the rest of the cadets? And how does it vary from weekend to weekend. Thanks

A blue weekend is a completely free weekend. Cadets can leave after LMD (last class or retreat) on Friday, assuming they are not restricted and have passes.

A silver weekend is a training weekend. There is either a SAMI, some kind of military training, or a home football game. Depending on the type of training, Cadets may be able to leave on a day pass Friday. Then after training is finished on Saturday (usually by noon-1pm), Cadets are release and have the rest of Saturday and all of Sunday off.

I'd say probably about 2/3 of the weekends are blue, 1/3 silver, but I didn't actually tally up the weekends to check that for accuracy.

Also, once 4*s are not restricted after parents weekend, they have plenty of opportunities to get out. I did not use all of my passes either semester last year, and borrowing a car is usually possible. Granted, going out in service dress does get old, but 4*s do get out plenty if they want.

Thanks for the info

My C4C told me it was a "silver week-end" and that he had a SAMI :frown:. But other than that, I had no idea what it meant:confused:. Thanks so much for the enlightenment:thumb:!

They way I always remember it is that "blue" weekends are when you can go out and see the "way blue yonder".

I was told the opposite - to remember that a "silver" weekend meant you had to stay in and "polish the silver"!

is there a schedule of which is blue and silver? I don't see it on the academic calenda:confused:r.

you most likely will never see a blue/silver schedule online. It used to be provided to parents. however, I think there were some issues because parents would count on it and schedule a visit. Then when the PTB decided to change a blue weekend to a silver weekend and the parents were left out in the cold, it became an issue.

so now, no schedule is published or provided via the parents liason. Which is the way it should be because the blue or silver weekend only affects our cadets and there really isn't much benefit in parents knowing which is which. at least imho

I recommend asking your cadet about whether there is an upcoming blue or silver weekend. The information is available to cadets via the cadet homepage. For example, this weekend will be blue, but the next weekend will be silver - and yes, the information on the cadet military training schedule gets updated (read: changed) frequently.

there is a Cadet Military Training Schedule on our homepage that allows us to see all of our military training days for the year including what weekends are blue and what weekends are silver. The file is protected so we can't print it or save it but it's out there. I have it available so if you're interested in a particular weekend I can PM you if it is blue or silver.

Actually it can be printed and saved...the document simply gets changed a lot. My job requires that I study the training schedule extensively every week.
