Term of a PMS

which branch?? Army ROTC Professor's of Military Science usually serve 2-3 years, and in rare cases some are granted an extension. Depending on their circumstances they are either getting to end of their career and retiring or up and coming and ready to get back in the fight. A friend of mine was given an ROTC Battalion, and then came out on the regular Battalion Command list, and will only be a PMS for one year before taking command in Korea.

there's usually not a simple answer in the Army.

Clarksonarmy, thanks for the response. Yes I did mean Army. My daughters PMS is leaving after a year. That sounded odd to me but perhaps such things happen depending on the Army's needs.

I think cadets should expect to have 2 PMS' during their time in school. This is not a problem in a well-run unit, as a good leader establishes continuity plans for the unit. For bonus points, prospective candidates can ask PMS' how they are preparing the unit personnel for the year after they depart. ROTC units are living organizations that have turnover just like any other Army unit and the job of leadership is to prepare the next generation for moving forward.
