For those who followed the thread entitled "Not Flying United Again", here is the update.
United was pretty much apologetic for the ticketing agent's lack of knowledge, as well as her supervisor's apparent misinformation. They promise to inform these employees of the company policy, which does indeed offer free baggage for a/d military, including CG. (and CGA cadets) A travel certificate will be issued to my son, which was quite a surprise.
While United may break Taylor guitars, they've stepped up to keep a frequent customer happy. Thanks United.

United is merging with Continental airlines sometime this fall. So far it has been announced the combined company will be headquartered in Chicago (home of United) but the Continental chief will run the combined companies. Management will be a blend of both companies. The new combined company will be simply known as United but the planes will feature the big golden globe logo of Continental airlines on the tail and UNITED on the fuselage. Continental waves its bag fees for up to two bags up to 50 lbs each for "active U.S. military personnel". This may be the policy of the new combined carrier given that Continental's head will be the head of the new company. Stay tuned.
