Does anybody know the dates of the remaining boards for the NROTC scholarship? Thanks:smile:

NROTC Board Dates

Here's what it says in the NROTC SCHOLARSHIP GUIDE, Navy Recruiting District, Phoenix. Another poster referred to this guide to assist with information about schools that offer free room and board when scholarships are awarded. It says they aren't the actual dates, but they must be close!

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Dates are not actual board dates. The dates are listed to aid the coordinator in explaining the selection process to applicants.

- 2 to 3 weeks for results to be published.
- Normal selection board consists of 450 packages.
- First 7 selection boards will be conducted before Christmas Holidays.

Board Dates

FY09A: 24 – August - 2009
FY09B: 28 – September - 2009
FY09C: 13 - October - 2009
FY09D: 2 - November - 2009
FY09E: 16 - November - 2009
FY09F: 7 - December - 2009
FY09G: 11 - January – 2010
FY09H: 25 - January – 2010

Deadline for Submission of application: 1 – February - 2010
FY09I: 9 - February - 2010
FY09J: 2 - March - 2010
FY09K: 16 - March - 2010
FY09L: 6 - April – 2010

Just got off the phone with my coordinator, and he said he hadn't heard anything about a cancellation of the boards, but he did tell me this:

"My commanding officer did tell me that they are going to go through ALL the boards till like freakin December, so th earliest you will hear back is probably gonna be Janury, so don't really worry about it. I'll let you know if I hear anything though."

Straight from his mouth. So, either way, we still probably won't hear back for a while.

Let me get this straight. Your Commanding Officer told you that the NROTC program is going to wait until after all the 2010 boards meet and select the scholarship recipients before notifying the recipients that they have been awarded a scholarship?

Between this theory and the one about the Navy not being able to find enough "volunteers" to man the selection boards, I'm beginning to think that there is a serious lack of communication between the various entities within the NROTC program.

I was actually starting to feel the same way...it seems as if there are multiple theories of why the board is not meeting, which begs the question why are there so many theories?

Not my CO, my scholarship coordinators CO told him that.

Thanks for the clarification. Is your scholarship coordinator the same NCO that helped motivate you to "hurry up" and complete your application because you definitely want to be done by August 1st to meet the first board? I know my son has been hearing that since May.

Nah, all my stuff was done by the end of June along with the interview, I just had to wait for my school to send everything out. He didn't really hurry me, because I had nothing to hurry with. Haha

AG,

What will you do if your DS goes Navy? Who will you root for at the AF V Navy game... will you root Navy and while your wife roots AF?

Which branch of service my son should enter is (as you can imagine) a hot topic of debate in our home. If he chooses Navy (and the Navy chooses him) then the Fall season in our house will be very entertaining. His sister has already informed him that if he goes Navy or Army that she can't fix him up with any of her girlfriends because their standards in men are too high to associate with soldiers or sailors. So it begins.....

Te hee hee.

Our good friend's son is at USNA, his father was an AFA grad. His son plays in the Pipes and Drums at USNA. We teased him at the AF V Navy game about their outfits, and he gave a classic response:

He said:
Get it right, I am an AFA grad and my son wears a skirt! (ref: kilt)

In the end of the day they may respect each other for serving, but blood doesn't even stop them from slamming each other when it comes to the pride of their branch:eek:

Have you seen or heard any more information on this years Selection Board process?

Nothing......

Do you think we're ever going to have definite, concrete answer as to how the board will proceed, or do you just think we will "magically" be getting in between now and the end of April?

I don't think we'll ever get an actual believable explanation as to what happened to the disappearing August 2010 board....if indeed it has disappeared. I'd give it another week though before we officially declare it MIA.

I'm sure the Navy will eventually get it's act together and select some scholarship recipients. When and how that will happen would just be a guess on my part. The only thing we can be fairly sure of is that the Navy will still need some ROTC officers in the pipeline for the next international crisis.
Good Luck! :thumb:

Has anybody heard anything about the next board? Is there going to be one in September?

This not knowing is killing me... hahah

My son's recruiters have each emailed him (in response to his email) and told him that they are unaware of the August board being canceled. They both said that he needs to allow 2-3 weeks for the results.

One also included the following:
" FYI in case you don't know the next few board dates they are: the 20th-24th of sept. then the 4th-8th of oct. then the 18th-22nd of oct. "

Good luck to those waiting! :thumb:

Very interesting how often they meet compared to the AF. I wonder if it is due to matching the candidate to the school or if it is they have so many more applicants that they need to meet that often to push all of them through. I just can envision how difficult it is to match the applicant to 5 schools when they do this. Uggh! It hurts my brain just trying to imagine them going okay X candidate gets these 5, oh wait, we need 1 of those 5 for Y candidate, so give him this one instead, oh wait that one is full, never mind give him the original 5 and we'll switch Y's. Talk about building a puzzle without knowing what the big picture looks like. UGGH!

I would agree that it seems the NROTC scholarship board works in mysterious ways. As long as they're satisfied with the results I suppose it doesn't matter how they get them.

Sometimes, I think they like doing it mysteriously, kind of like the evil doctor rubbing their hands and laughing at the same time while they say, Let's see them figure this one out.

It's kind of smart, because it is so confusing you would never fight the board's result because between the WCS and the school det system you would get to the point where you say screw it!

I do wonder how much time it takes to train the board members on how to do the system. I kind of like the AF system because it is cut and dry here is your WCS, you are in the X % thus, we will offer you this scholarship...go, fly be free!
