I am currently trying to do anything i can to increase my chances of being accepted into the USAFA, i am a junior in high school and i'm thinking about dropping out of varsity football and switching to cross country to give me more free time to study. Does two years of varsity football look better than two years of varsity cross country? Will they look down on the fact that I quit a sport half way through high school? I don't have a good chance of being team captain in either sport.

Hasn't high school football season already started? Are you thinking of quitting a varsity team after the season has begun?

yes, the football season is interfering with my academics, but cross country is willing to let me join this late in their season

..the football season is interfering with my academics..
Doesn't sound as though you have much of a choice. As much as I personally dislike the thought of someone quitting a team sport after the season has already begun, academic success will weigh more heavily than another varsity football letter. I'm a little confused about why varsity football didn't effect your academics last year but is this year and how you know cross-country won't have the same effect, but academics IMHO would have to be more important than another varsity letter.
