I don't know how many of you have seen this dastardly video made by the CGA but I hope that the KP Mids on here watch it share my rage and retaliate with a video come back that goes above and beyond the call of duty!! Make us alumni proud boys and girls!!!

WOW and holy cr@p!!!!!! I'm not even an alum and I'm furious...... and REALLY glad I will be at that game to cheer on my Mariners! I hope any parents, alum and friends who live close enough can make it to the game and show a real PRESENCE.

Bears never have been my favorite animal, now I know why.

Okay so this is pretty bad it just shows how stoooopid these three particular guys are -

If I were trying to snark back in kind and less of a bigger man I'd probably say something like "Typical USCG and USCGA junk when they can't and don't have the facts or reality on their side, they just make stuff up....

someone please tell me when Joe Hazelwood taught at Kings Point?

Fact - it's not the USMMA guys who think they are in the military and are not - since as Midshipmen, USNR they are under the US Department of Defense i.e the "military". Mind you of all the crap in this video this is the one that I think is the silliest ... after all of the five Federal Service Academies can someone remind me which is the only one authorized and entitled to carry a battle standard?

As far as Military utility of graduates of the Federal Academies "right after graduation: - I'd argue that both are at schools and being trained to be better sea faring mariners and OODs than either Annapolis or NROTC O-1's. After all who do you think is a better mariner the day they graduate: a) a USMMA graduate with basically 300+ days aboard ship standing watches, etc and another 65 days on simulators, etc operating those vessels and systems; b) a USCGA graduate who has spent every summer working in and around vessels doing lost, and lots of practical seamanship things including a summer on the USCG EAGLE; of c) a USNA graduate O-1 who may have spent actually 3/4's of one whole summer doing the sorts of things the USCGA grad did while the others were spent being exposed to and trained in all the other things a JO will need to know and do? Mind you I'm not debating about what trains a better well rounded JO, but rather what makes a better mariner which I concede is straying somewhat from the attempted slight about the military... that said ask an experienced O-4/O-5 which of those three, if he's forced to do it because of of some large scale mobilization, who he'd be more willing and likely to trust on the bridge of a ship, warship or otherwise, all other things (maturity, etc.) being equal, on watch as OOD with what amounts to the rest of his career in his hands as Captain, Navigator, and/or XO of that vessel, and I bet 3 out of 4 would say the Ensign out of KP.... even if he had Joe Hazelwood, a NY Maritime grad and other faults aside basically a reasonably accomplished and highly experienced mariner before the Exxon Valdez accident, as a professor for some 3 or 4 credit course for one trimester.

Fact: technically no one majors in "Deck" of course the USCGA Cadets either don't know or understand that or more likely it didn't fit the alternate reality they were trying to craft with the video. I think they (USCGA grads) say silly stuff like this because they know that the average USMMA graduate with a Deck License who works in the Maritime Industry does indeed have a solid future and right out of the box makes a lot more than they will as an active duty O-1.... so why even care about this stuff? Also the best part of it is this year we get to beat them on their home field....

Fact: I bet the kid shown who as "Waitlisted by USCGA" - if he was, by the time he's a third classman truly understands how much better his options, opportunities and prospects are when he graduates out of USMMA then they would have been as a USCGA graduate with one of those great degrees in majors like "Government" or "Management" .... Not dissing them any worse then they diss'ed us but I can tell you 28 years out from graduation I still haven't seen anything - and I mean ANYTHING that would make me want to go back and trade my USMMA experience and degree for an equivalent USCGA one - so again this is just jealousy on their part in my mind...."

However since I'm not that kind of a snarky little minded person I won't say anything like that and I hope we Mariners all just let our performances on the fields, courts, diamonds and water this year do our talking for ourselves... After all isn't that what mature, self assured, self actualized leaders (military or otherwise) think you should do?

I do indeed hope the members of the current regiment use this "stoopid" prank/video by some arrogant Coasties as total motivation to chomp on some Bear backside not just this coming weekend but the rest of this whole year. As for responding in kind, with our own stupid video they can use for similar motivation I wouldn't do it.

BTW yesterday at the Alumni Golf event here in DC we ended up in a 4.5 - 4.5 tie and had a pleasant and enjoyable day that was capped with a very enjoyable joint dinner. Also even though I'm obviously an over-proud USMMA grad and supporter and I think that the Navy O-1 would be the least of the three school's graduates I'd want as OOD right out of school, in a Football game, after watching Navy-Maryland, I know who I'd pick for that one hands down....

The youtube linky no work now?

It states "This video has been removed by the user"

I wonder why?

There are a lot of non-KP readers on this forum, even some Coasties. Do you think Luigi had anything to do with getting it pulled, lest the Mariners use it to get rev'd up?:jump1:

KP needs to admit they were had. It doesnt matter what is actually true or not true because it was all meant as a joke. The fact that KP'ers have gotten so offended is funny. The only fact is Midshipmen were played into make a video that was used against them which is 100% hilarious.

You should have seen the video MMA had too. Makes me scared to be close to any of them on Saturday.

Go Bears

I thought it was pretty well done aside from the fact checking -- though I wonder if those CGA cadets might have an honor board coming thier way for misrepresenting themselves to get permission to video at KP.....

it was a well-made video, made me laugh. between that and the urinal cakes, i wish we had the time/money to do something similar (but, you know, we've probably been in class or something:biggrin:) BR2011, youre clearly not remembering your history, as the "response", which i will freely admit was pretty tasteless but funny nonetheless, was basically a remake of a similar video that met a similar fate a few years back. the new one was meant to be a spoof off of that, and primarily for a KP audience, which would get the inside joke. the video was as much of a joke as you claim yours to have been. in either case, both have met their match in the pink youtube rejection screen of death, so let's just let it fight itself out in the football, volleyball, and soccer arenas.

all i know, rivalries aside, is that there was a person inside that bear costume and what those two guys did to that person is just plain weird. No one here was offended. The only reaction was "who does that?"

Whatever the case the rivalry is more alive than it has been in my time here so it should be a good game Saturday. Go Bears.

On a side note, at last year's game I truly enjoyed the KP grads who are Commissioned Coasties cheering, in the CG uniform, for KP :) :) :)

LineInTheSand, KP is the football team that's going to hand Coast Guard its butt tomorrow! Haha!

HA. Well, Luigi et al can be happy (but just barely) about the outcome of the football game.
But the Mariners nearly scared the complacent bears out of their wits in the 4th quarter, with the game ticking down to the final seconds.
I'd have preferred a little different ending, but admire the tenacity and determination of the Mariners!!! Go KP!!

The only thing I saw them handing us was a nice shiny trophy that read "Secretaries' Cup Champions" on it, as well as a football every so often.

Rivalry is alive and well, just a new way of expressing it.

I didn't see the You tube or I might not be commenting here. But what I do know is that this type of rivalry has been going on for many years. The only difference is the modern technology of You tube as a means of showing rivalry.

My husband remembers as a midshipman, going to the Coast Guard Academy for a football game. The ref called a play and the students objected. Both sides of the bleachers emptied onto the field. It was cold so they all (CGA and USMMA) had their blue pea coats on. The field was a sea of dark blue.

It was decided the two schools would never play against each other again. It took 8 years for the officials to change their minds and allow them to play against each other again.

Rivalry is alive and well, no matter what form it takes.

Well .... It Wasn't A Banner Day For Us Mariniers But ...

Soccer: USMMA 1 - USCGA 0
Football: USMMA 8 - USCGA 10
Volleyball: USMMA 0 - USCGA 3

The truth is in football, the USMMA Defense played great, the Offense has had better days, lots of turnovers and penalties ... in the end the USCGA team did there best to let us stay in the game and give us a chance but we couldn't convert. The reality is that there was really only one offensive touchdown all day and that was by USMMA but giving up a TD on the opening kickoff really put the Mariners in a hole that we never dug out of ....

So as of now the Bears have the Secretaries Cup and a 2-1 lead for this year's Superintendent's Trophy ...

Let's Go Mariners ... Heave Ho My Lads!

I love this story... and it puts the current rivalry and youtube antics in historical (hysterical) perspective!
