I had a few questions regarding the admissions process. First of all I wanted to provide you with a little background information. Last year I applied to West Point as a senior in high school. I made it really far in the admissions process. I received my congressional nomination and unfortunately had to wait until almost the deadline to finish my application due to a nagging injury and having to hold off on the CFA. I was told that the class was already full by the time I applied and was deemed fully qualified and put on the waiting list. I ended up not getting in but I thought, no problem I'll still be able to accomplish my goals of becoming an army officer by attending one of the military colleges I was accepted which were Texas A & M, VMI, and Virginia Tech. Unfortunately, my injury did not get any better and I was not able to attend any of these colleges and instead settled on attending Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. I also found out that in order to fix the injury that I suffered I would have to under go surgery. About 2 weeks before school started I had a double compartment syndrome release in both of my legs and have since been progressing at a really good rate. I hadn't even thought about attempting to apply to the academies again this year as I thought the recovery process would be much longer however I've been able to make a lot of progress and believe I'm capable of applying given that it is still possible. I understand from last year that it is a long process and am willing to put in the work in order to apply. My question is regarding the medical exam as to whether I would be disqualified due to the type of surgery I had or the fact that it has been so soon afterward. I'm fully capable of passing the CFA and in another month or so I will be able to score extremely well on it. Attending West Point has been my dream for a very long time and I felt as though it was getting crushed along with my dream of commissioning into the Army last year. If not this year then I sure hope next year I will be able to apply. I understand that credit doesn't transfer into the academies but I honestly do not care about starting over as a plebe. Basically, I'm asking that knowing these circumstances is it possible to make it this year or should I hold off a year and apply next year? I'm currently doing all that I can to boost my resume including getting involved in leadership positions, staying active, and taking challenging classes.
