I've been in contact with my congressman for a congressional nom, but it seems as if they may not be doing any this year. My congressman decided to run for a different office (and lost) so they are preparing to turn over the office. The lady over nominations told me that they may not be giving anymore out. She also told me that the new office holder may take a while getting started with nominations so it would be better for me to apply for another nomination. I already have a JROTC nom and this was going to be my back-up.

I guess my question is can they just decide not to give out nominations?

Hi!

The answer is, Yes; a MoC can decide not to make any nominations in a given year. Many do this to ensure that they will always have one nomination available (really have two openings, but only nominate for one opening).

To confirm this, I contacted my MoC's office (I work with them as their nomination board chairman for USAFA) and they confirmed it.

Thank god my congressman is pretty much unbeatable. He's really the only hope I have for a nomination.

 I wonder if a heartfelt letter to the MOC might be in order. The outgoing and the incoming one, when you know!

Proper prior planning should prevent this from ever happening but apparently it doesn't. It seems that every year there are rumors of MOCs with no noms to give.
