can you update school choic in between boards?

if a candidate is not chosen for a scholarship during the first board, can s/he change the school of intent list before the second board?
 
Absolutely....we did it several times.

We didn't even have the University of Portland on our list until they sent us an unsolicated letter. We had never even heard of the school. After receiving that letter and researching the school, we put them at #3 on our list and later bumped them all the way up to #1. We moved other schools around as well as we learned more about the individual nursing programs.

was this update up until the time your daughter was boarded for the first time? Or, was the update made after the earlier board where she was not selected and the next board when she was selected for the scholarship?

I can easily see that you can change the school list as many times as you want before your file went before the board for the first time. I just want to make sure that in case a student is not selected for the scholarship, s/he can change the school list before s/he gets evaluated "again" (not for the first time).

Yes, we changed after the first board she was elgible for met (October). Portland wasn't even on her lsit at that point at all. We initially put it on her list at #3 or 4 but after the December board, we moved it to #1 on her list. She was then chosen on the January board.
 
I going to give you a warning though, make sure that the changes actually take place. We made changes last year and the changes never took. Even though he changed the schools and order and we could see the changes on our end, the changes never went through on CC end. They had his school choices completely wrong. It worked out well in the end and he is at his #1 choice school.
 
My Son AFROT made the 1st Boards last Dec and changed his school of
choice in late April. There were no problems. He changed from out of state to in state so the scholarship type actually changed in the end. ROTC really does not care where you are going to as long as they offer the major that your scholarship was awarded for. (IE/my son looked at University of MN but they did not offer Meterology so he could not consider that school. )
 
Yes. Please send your change of major request to pnsc_nrotc_applications@navy.mil.

When developing your list, remember that you can only choose either the host NROTC unit or one of its cross-town affiliated schools but not both. Using our colleges/universities list at https://www.nrotc.navy.mil/colleges_nrotc_unitsXP3.aspx will help you ensure that you have only listed one or the other.


Once you have been selected for an NROTC Scholarship, you must go through the placement office to request a change (pnsc_nrotc.placement@navy.mil). Transfers are not guarenteed, neither is your number one school. That is why you must list 5 schools and apply to each one.

I believe AROTC is different in this regard. Scholarship transfer from one school to another is an iffy proposition. I heard several stories where some scholarship winners were unable to use the scholarship in the end because s/he was not admitted to the school where s/he had the scholarship for, and s/he couldn't transfer the scholarship to the school s/he was admitted to.

That happens....and sometimes they get in but the ROTC slots at their chosen schools are full. It *seems* based on posts I've read that things usually work themselves out after soem personal intervention by CC, the school PMS, etc...

Our friend (who eventually ended up at the USNA) had chosen to attend a school here in SoCal thru NROTC. She later decided she wanted to go to Notre Dame but their allotment was full and she was initially #8 on the waiting list. She made it down all the way to #1 on the waiting list before time ran out and she went with the USNA. Notre Dame then actually called AFTER the cutoff date and told her they had a slot for her but she stayed with her USNA choice and from what we hear, couldn't be happier.

How do you know for sure when it is "safe" to update the list in between boards? I haven't seen any specific dates saying when the NROTC boards meet and don't want to change it if something is in process.
