How many NROTC scholarships?

Now that "supposedly" two scheduled NROTC scholarship boards have met and had a couple of weeks to release their results, lets get a roll call of all those that have received NROTC scholarships for the Fall of 2011. Anyone? :thumb:

Lee2015: Has your your daughter's status finally changed from "in process" from a week ago?
NROTC just showed up on my daughter's DoDMERB page--"in process".

Congrats sbbond93! By now you should certainly know what unit you have been approved for....what college were you assigned?
I am an applicant to for NROTC and my page says

Agency: US Navy ROTC

Current Medical Status: Qualified Unrestricted Line (as of 06-OCT-10 )

Do not know what this means, but the status page after signing into the online application has changed. Instead of saying that the application is at the NETC, it says:

- You have an application awaiting selection decision.
- You cannot apply for the current application year until a selection decision has been made.
- You can check the status of your application at https://www.nrotc.navy.mil/status_scholarship.aspx

The problem is, the link to Check Status of Current NROTC Application https://www.nrotc.navy.mil/status_scholarship.aspx only shows 2009 and 2010 scholarship status, but no option to check on 2011 application status.

As we have no applications into any other service academy or AROTC or AFROTC, we don't have a DODMERB page on which to check status.

I'm getting the same message. Looks as though the NROTC can now add site problems to this year's scholarship process. I'd say the Navy NROTC process is definitely experiencing some hick-ups this year. Fortunately if we have any issues we can email Ms Parker for whatever answers the Navy doesn't consider secret. Sadly, I've not heard back from her on my email earlier this week so I can't really say what the turn-around time for an email to her might be.

Any more scholarship offers out there? How about all you USNA applicants? Your stats should be more than high enough to hear back from the NROTC about your plan Bs?

Honestly has anyone heard anything? My son is at USNA right now for the CVW but I'm not sure which is the Plan A at this point. I know something's in the system because he's gotten all kinds of contact from the NROTC unit at his #1 choice school so they're aware of his application and even his choice of branch/field within the Navy (and had people from that field contact him as well). But we've heard nothing official and I still get the same results when checking any of the sites.

aglages - what is your son's first choice? Thought I saw you on the WP LOA thread? Is he also considering USNA? Or just NROTC?

I checked my status online as well and am sad to say have received the same message. As aglages says, the Navy NROTC process is a bit rough this year.

I can't tell you what my son's first choice is because I haven't asked him during the last 3 hours (he is at a football game). Seriously, he has completed/submitted his applications to USMA, USNA, USAFA, AFROTC, NROTC and AROTC and four noms. It seems as though he is leaning towards the USAFA and USMA, but that may be because they seem to be more interested in him than the USNA. Yes - he does have a LOA for West Point. During the next month he has candidate visits to both WP and the USAFA and hopefully those visits will help him solidify a choice. At this point the ROTC applications are his Plan B if he either doesn't get an appointment/nom to whichever SA he finally chooses, or if he decides to go the civilian college route and pursues a more "typical" college experience.

As far as whether anyone has heard anything: there was one poster (sbbond93) about a week ago whose DoDMERB status changed to what we would expect (at least last year that is the way it worked) if our children did receive a NROTC scholarship. Shortly after the DoDMERB site changed sbbond93 should have seen his NROTC status site change to show that he was awarded a scholarship and to which college/unit he was approved. Eventually he would receive written notification of all this. I would have thought by now he should have seen something other than just a change in his DoDMERB status and that is why I asked him specifically to reply to this thread. Of course with all the glitches that seem to be occurring within the NROTC process this year...who knows what we should be seeing/expecting?

Overall though it seems very strange that only one person from all these extremely qualified candidates has been awarded a scholarship. There seem to be more USNA candidates that have already received LOAs than people that have received NROTC scholarships. I don't know what the numbers are normally, but I highly doubt that all these candidates that have such strong qualifications as to receive Letters Of Assurance to the USNA in October are all going to be passed over by a NROTC board...just not going to happen in my opinion.

Personally I'm not sure ANY NROTC board has actually met yet and if they have we haven't seen the results....yet. sbbond93 may just be some special exception to the normal process whose application is so strong he was awarded a scholarship through some means other than to be reviewed by a NROTC scholarship board. Either that or perhaps the board took one look at sbbond93's application and decided that he is all they need for now.

Anybody email Ms Parker (melissa.a.parker@navy.mil) and receive either a response or some useful information?

I checked my status and I'm also getting the same response as the rest of you- maybe this means that something is coming along soon?

Perhaps. Interesting that they "chose" to work on it during the weekend.

Not sure if this is a bad sign but I checked my son's Dodmerb page again and it still doesn't even show the NROTC at all. He's been qualified for USAFA and USNA since early July but nothing for NROTC even yet - not even an "in process".

You aren't the only one...I think it just means that we either haven't been accepted yet or we have been accepted but the information hasn't been relayed to DoDMERB.

As best as I can remember the only poster that reported an "In Process" status on their DoDMERB was Lee2015. Hopefully he'll post his current status on this thread to give us an idea of how that eventually turned out.

This isn't the only system problem we've encountered with the NROTC website. A couple of weeks ago, I opened up the actual application again. My son's updated SAT scores were posted but all of his college choices were wrong and his major had changed from Mechanical Engineering to majoring in Turkish. Got it squared away after a couple of emails. I agree that it doesn't inspire a lot of confidence in the process.

Did you manage to get your son's actual application corrected? Who did you contact? My son's SAT scores were added up incorrectly by the local office (100 points less than actual). When I opened his application it is still incorrect but the NROTC person I've written to said it is correct in "the system". Needless to say I have some concerns about the reliability of "the system" and the "don't worry be happy" approach.

The local coordinator gave us the email address that Ms. Parker subsequently posted. I emailed them a screen shot of the page from his May application and a shot of what the application looked like at the time. They responded pretty quickly and it was changed immediately. I didn't even know you could major in Turkish!

Two Questions

First question: How did you open the application again? Can't seem to be able to see the actual app and after reading these posts, would like to make sure my daughter's info is correct.

Second question: Does anyone have a link for the 2011 application status? We are getting the same messages as others have posted recently which eventually ends us up at the 2009/10 status page with no info.

I tried almost the exact same email after getting the don't worry be happy response. Never heard back and it never changed. I suppose it is a hit or miss proposition with the NROTC. Did you get a response from a specific person after you sent your original email to the general email address? It would certainly be helpful to specifically identify someone competent within the system...if possible.

On the status page that we are used to seeing with the verbiage that the application is pending at Pensacola. Above that were two links with one to the application and if I remember correctly, the other link was to the references that were provided in the original application.

The response wasn't from a specific person but from the address.

Question #2 is related to question #1: Unfortunately you need to be able to access the link that is currently not working. Normally once you sign in with your SSN and DOB you will get a screen with the current status of your scholarship application. As I recall there is a link there that you can open your original application. So.....once the NROTC fixes one problem you can check to see if you have another problem.
