I was wondering if there is any way to either transfer out of West Point and become a warrant Officer or be commissioned as a Warrant Officer?

You cannot be commissioned as a warrant officer. Commissioned officers are commissioned. Warrant officers are warranted (the nuances that occur thereafter are not germane to this discussion).

You can "transfer out" by quitting. You cannot walk away from USMA on Monday and be a warrant officer on Tuesday.

Thanks for the reply. If I was to walk out of USMA would I enlist then go to WOCS or would I go directly to WOCS?

Chief Warrant Officers are also commissioned.

I don't understand the reasoning of going to a 4-year instituation like West Point and wanting to enter the Army as a warrant after that time.

I am already at West Point and most likely will not be high enough to branch Aviation. I also heard that Warrant Officers get to fly more.

You would have to enlist, and then you would compete for a WOCS slot through the WOFT program. Statistically speaking, yours odds are not good. Every year we see many "qualified/non-select" candidates. The Army is not producing as many warrant officers now.

Over a 20-year span, yes. In the short-term, everyone flies roughly the same amount because of the endless need for more blade hours in theater. On my first deployment, the lieutenants and captains ended up with the same flight hours as the warrants. Everyone was continually bumping up against their 100 hour limit for the month.

And yes, once a warrant becomes a CW2 he is technically commissioned, but as I said that isn't really germane to your question, as that commission is totally unrelated to your commission as a 2LT.

Is USMA not offering the additional ADSO for branch of choice any
longer?

I was told ADSO would only move one up 200 or so in the ranking...not sure if that's true. If this cadet can still "walk out," I would imagine he's a first semester yearling...isn't that a bit early to give up on getting the branch he wants? There are still 4 semesters of grades/military/physical to average in. Intead of figuring a way out, why not figure out a way to make the goal a reality?

Yes, in either case I would highly HIGHLY recommend that he stay put. Getting a warrant slot isn't easy these days, and he'd have walked away from a premiere degree even if he got one. Not worth it. They're just helicopters.
