Friends and family would like to send my Plebe giftcards to places near (aka walking) the Academy. Any suggestions.

Hey USNA DAD,

I'm a candidate for the class of 2015 and over the summer a good friend of my fathers who is a USNA alumni took me on a tour of the Academy. While I was there he took me to two restaurants that are really popular with the midshipmen.

The first one was the Ram's Head Tavern, which is a very good place to eat. It has a great atmosphere. The second place he took me was Chick & Ruth's Delly, which is almost like a diner. They have the world's BEST malted milkshakes.

Both of the restaurants are literally right across the street from the Naval Academy in the downtown area. Maybe a two minute walk from the gate. I'm also including a link with other restaurants and stores located on the same street.

The USNA graduate (2001) who took me said that midshipmen hangout there a lot in their spare time, the two restaurants listed were his personal favorites.

Downtown: Starbucks. Most of the places downtown are not chains. The two suggestions above are long-standing favorites.

Mall area, which plebe can get to via bus and sponsor, not that hard: Cheesecake Factory, California Pizza Kitchen, Macaroni Grill, Johnny Rockets, Red Robin... go to the website for the Annapolis Mall, which is really "Westfield Shoppingtown Annapolis," for full list.

Even easier, the Visa and MasterCard cash gift cards, though the activation fee is a pain in the wallet.
 
Chick and Ruth's is the BEST. An amazing place and super friendly people. They also make deliveries to one of the gates,can't remember which one.
 
In addition to Annapolis Mall, there's now a Target store at the new Town Center shopping area. Target offers gift cards online. Nearby (all w/i easy walking if they get to the general area) are eateries including The Melting Pot, PF Chang's, a Panera Bread, and an Outback Steakhouse.
 
My mid has never refused a gift certificate from Kilwin's Chocolates on Main Street. :thumb:

Agreed! We visit every time we visit Annapolis and never a disappointment! In fact, we're going again this coming weekend.:thumb:
