Hmm, What do you think of this?

I got an e-mail from the PMS at Penn State a few weeks ago asking if he can set up a phone interview with me. I figured it was a standard thing, that they called a few high school students interested in their school, didn't think too much of it, so I went with it. We had the interview last week, he told me to try to make the trip out to the school asap, so I convinced my parents.

I e-=mailed him telling him that I was going ot for a visit and he told me "Good to hear. Will work the action from our end. Hooah!"

Any idea what that means?

He also told me to try to stop by the office and they would sponsor the trip or something.

But has anyone had this at any school, specifically Penn State?

A google search of PSU brings up
1. Penn State
2. Portland State
3. Pittsburgh State
and
4. Plymouth State

I am guessing Penn State is your PSU haha?

I had the same basic ordeal when I talked to my number one school. They were very willing to help out and made me feel welcome, even set me up with some cadets to talk to and gave me a quick tour of the office and facilities. This is one of their recruiting tactics more or less. Just making sure that they show you all they can to allow you to make an informed decision.

And to make sure they one-up your number two school:shake:

Son had the same call from PSU and did the telephone interview about two weeks ago. Talked to a LTC who went over his file with him and told him that he was a very "attractive candidate" and the call was just a "gut check" to see how interested he was in AROTC at PSU. My son told him it was his first choice after the USMA and the LTC told him that he hoped to see him in the Nitany Lion Battalion in the Fall of 2011. Last Monday my son received an acceptance letter for PSU's (UP) School of Engineering. Son sent a follow-up email to the LTC advising him that he was accepted and received a very positive return email.

FWIW - My son received a similar email from the University of Michigan (#2 on his college list) three weeks ago also asking about his intentions towards AROTC at UM. I think we are seeing the various AROTC Battalions trying to get a feel for who they should recommend to CC for their Battalions. With fewer scholarships than applicants I guess they are trying to make sure people aren't just using their Battalions as "safeties" without any intention of enrolling. Can't really blame them.

Good Luck!:thumb:

Ahh, thank you aglages and mtnman17.

Aglages- PSU is actually number two on my list, mainly because my number 1 is an instate. However, if I got into both (RU and PSU) I would most likely end up at PSU, just because I don't really like the Rutgers campus. I'm visitng PSU next week, and am going to stop by the AROTC building and talk to some of them.

However, while the LTC your S spoke to said he was a strong candidate, he told me that I was more of a 2nd boarder, haha. Kind of hurt a bit, but I knew it from the start.

There's no shame in going on the 2nd board, or the 3rd or 4th or 10th if there was one. The competition is so stiff that even getting offered a scholarship is a great acheivement.

I'm no expert but based on our experience last year, I'd move Penn State up to #1 on your list if it would be your 1st choice. Do it after the interview and make sure they know that you moved them to #1 because you were so impressed with the unit and school.

Just don't let it slip that Joe Paterno is nothing but a figurehead and needs to go...if Penn State wants to compete with the big boys in the future :shake:

Amen.

Also, while the LTC told my son he was an "attractive" candidate, it may just have been a matter of timing. My son may have spoken to him before he talked to 15 other people and he was still mentally fresh. I wouldn't read too much into it.

Hmm, What do you think....

My son attends Penn State, he is junior physics/astrophysics major. He is not ROTC, but had the opportunity. I have met alot of student there through him and that do ROTC who would not go anywhere else. There are alot opportunities at Penn State. If I can be of any help, let me know. I live in Harrisburg, which is 90 miles away.
