From BG Rapp FB page:

What a thrill this weekend for 104 Cadets (75 flag holders, 6 Color Guard and 23 Glee Club) who traveled to Yankee Stadium this past Saturday to support game 3 of the ALDS for the NY Yankees. After rehearsing earlier in the evening, the cadets took the field at 2005 hrs the cadets as the players were being introduced. The Glee Club sang the National Anthem with the Color Guard in midfield as 75 cadets unfurled the giant US flag in the back field. Hugely positive reaction from the fans at the game and a thrill for our cadets. I thank MAJ Vidal Chavez for these pics and for leading the cadets down to the Bronx for this outreach.

My old roommate was on color staff. He got to do a lot of those gigs. Nice post :thumb:

This is interesting. I love watching color guard.

However as a MA native I'm going to have to ignore the Yankees part.

Love the post, buff81. I was on the paintball team as a cadet. Kinda dorky, but a great escape when you're young.

The Combat Classic or "Big Game" as we called it was always fun, and a HUGE money-maker. We had registration set at $50 per person, and when we ran the Battle of the Bulge scenario we had over 200 players pay to play, plus they purchased cases of RPS paintballs that our friend Santos from Kingston donated. The Culinary Institute used to come cook for us, in exchange for free registration.

Cadets, look into this club. I assume they still travel like we did. Nationals in Chicago (Joliet, Ill. but who's counting) and Worlds in Aruba are awesome trips to take!

Sorry to go off topic...one question, is anyone allowed onto the paintball team/club? I am interested, but have only played paintball once in my life.

Eons ago when the glaciers were receding and I was a cadet, yes. It's a club which is mostly for fun. Anyone was allowed then and I would doubt it has changed.

Might have to give the paintball club a try. I've never been paintballing but I've always wanted to try it.

Scout were you friends with anyone at West Point that was part of the parachuting club? I'm really interested in trying skydiving/parachuting as well.

Yes, I was friends with people who were on the cadet skydiving team (very competitive to join) and those who were simply in the recreational club.

I've personally never done free-fall parachuting, only static-line jumps.

When I was Color Guard at VMI (junior year), we did the flags at the Opening Day festivities for the Cincinnati Reds (1998). Not quite as cool as the ALDS, but still pretty neat. I saw Marge Schott and her dog.

Well - y'all had good eats then back in the dark ages.
This year the 'chefs' were 2 cadets.
Menu: Hamburgers and hotdogs.

It is still a competitive club sport.
To be a member you have to work the Combat Classic each semester.
Still a popular event.
They made a large profit this year too! :thumb:

I've heard that from a number of people, but I've never heard any specifics. What makes it competitive? Is it based off class rank (military score, GPA, etc)?

It's a tryout and they take who they want.

Try outs are second semester...and they basically smoke you.

Another cool thing a cadet can do...

My cadet is abroad for the semester. I wondered if he and the other cadets would find Americans to eat a Thanksgiving meal with. He did; they're invited to the Ambassador's house.

From BG Rapp's Facebook page-

Yesterday:
"This evening, a large number of the former Iranian hostages are back at the Thayer Hotel, 30 years nearly to the day of their return from Tehran and initial reuniting with families at West Point. Tomorrow morning, the entire Corps will line Thayer Road from Mahan to the Library and cheer as the former hostages pass by- the same thing we did 30 years ago!"

Yeah. We got to start the day an hour early, have 2 classes, then stand outside in the cold for half an hour before the vans came, then go back to class and finish at normal time. It was cool seeing them at lunch when we could actually see them, not cars with tinted windows...

OK, now I have to wonder if the guy wearing the pedobear suit got away with it. That's a hilarious slide show.
