I was recently put on one of my Senators unranked competitive slates for a nomination to the Naval Academy. This was about 3 days ago. How long does it usually take the Academy to decide which nominee gets the nomination? and is it only that nominees application that shows as having received a nomination? As my application still has none received under nominations.

The Academy will not display the nomination until it has received notification of the awarding of the nomination. There are too many variables involved to nail down how long it will be before the Academy acts upon that slate of nominees. Primary consideration will be determining who is the most qualified and desired nominee, and that is only the beginning of the factors to be researched and resolved.

Thank you for clarifying. I guess I don't have to check the CIS obsessively now. Now all I have to do is wait, yay.:bang:

I think there is some confusion as to the terms you are using.

You don't have to wait to see if you received a nomination - you have already, congratulations. Your Senator submitted 10 people on his slate, and all 10 of them have a nomination.

What you are now seeking is an appointment. The nomination by your Senator makes you legally eligible to compete for an appointment.

The USNA does not have to decide which one of the 10 "gets the nomination" as they all get the nomination.

What they have to decide is "who gets the appointment."

That process can go on until around April 15th.

Luigi59,

I what your saying is true then shouldn't it say under nominations received my senators name?

And while most often one (sometimes more, up to as many as 5) on that nomination list may receive your senator's appointment slot, other desirable candidates might well be appointed as well via various routes. In theory, if not in reality, all nominees might eventually receive appointments.

Give it some time and it should become updated. USNA is dealing with thousands of applicants. As you previously said, sometimes we just have to wait

BTW what state are you from? The deadline for the applications in my state is November 1, so we won't even have interviews or selections for quite some time.

As Luigi correctly noted, your senator's office controls his nominations; the Naval Academy will use the roster or slate of nominees to select appointees. This is a reasonably orderly process. When USNA receives official notice of the slate of nominees that information will be entered into CIS. USNA, and all of the academies, value their relationships with the MOC's and are careful not to misuse the information as it may result in embarrassing a MOC. You may discover that when USNA selects a nominee for an appointment, that information is released first to the MOC so that he or she may be the first to notify the candidate of the event. It will not be posted on BGIS for several days to avoid inadvertant premature release of the appointment.

Ok thanks for all of the information and I am from Illinois and the nomination was from Sen. Burris. He is leaving office election day through a special election so I'm pretty sure he had to get all of his nominations in before then.

In answer to your original question, within a few days, your CIS will reflect either an IL-1 or IL-2, as will all the other nine from each slate submitted, no matter if it was competitive or principal.

Keep in mind that candidates apps to USNA are open until Mar 1.......there may be one or more candidates on your slate who have not completed their app. USNA will not choose a candidate from that unranked slate until they have all the pieces to the puzzle.
