Chance at NAPS

Since I realize that there is probably no chance of me getting into USNA, how do I stand for NAPS?

1710/2400 (620m, 520cr, 570w)
25 ACT (27m, 27e, 26w, 22r, 23s)
3.24 GPA
No varsity sports, but some intramurals.
Camp counselor

I haven't taken the CFA yet, but on the apft for the arotc (yes, I am doing AROTC for a back up if Navy doesn't happen) and I got 71 push ups, 68 crunches, and a 7:30 mile.

Any chance for NAPS?
 
Hard to say re NAPs. There are a number of situations that make NAPS more likely. A FEW of them are: low GPA and high SATs or low SATs and high GPA along with other great attributes (leadership, etc.).

Know that everyone who is not selected for a direct appointment is automatically considered for NAPS/Foundation.

Yeah, up until the other day, I preffered ROTC over NAPS, but then I realized, if I want to go into my field of choice, I have a better chance of getting it, along with a longer career if I go up against 1000 other mids at the academy, rather than 5,000+ in the entire US.

Tbh, I think the extra year will be worth it.
 
An interesting rationale. I know how USNA service selection works -- not sure about NROTC. If this is your primary -- or even a major -- reason for USNA over ROTC, one suggestion and one comment.

First (a suggestion), if you've not already done so, go over to the ROTC forum and ask about how service selection works, how many get their first choice, etc. The numbers make it seem more of a long shot but that might not be the case -- it also depends on how many slots for each warfare specialty are available and how the USN/USMC decides how gets what. I also don't know whether ROTC grads have the option of going Restricted Line (e.g., Supply, Intel) directly out of school. I think not, but it's worth checking if one of those interests you.

Second (a comment), if serving is your dream, I wouldn't give up on ROTC. The NAPS slots are hard to come by (as are direct appointments). It's way too uncertain to be your Plan A. Keep all of your options open as long as possible and see what happens.

Interesting math even if you don't think the competition will be tougher at the USNA. The following thread seems to indicate that NROTC commissions 800 ensigns per year compared to the USNA's 1000+.

Wait a second, there were only 800 commissioned through ROTC last year? I figured with 160+ schools, and most having atleast 10, there would be over 2k.
I guess I forgot to take into account the fact that only SENIORS are getting commisioned... OOps

And nowhere did I say it would be easier at USNA than ROTC
