I just received my LOA from USMA. It said that I must turn in my CFA . I took my CFA last month and got these scores.

throw-76 ft
pullups-10
shuttle-8.9
pushups-62
situps-78
mile-8:17

I was wondering that with my LOA, do I need to retake my scores or just leave it and turn them in?

I believe with an LoA, as long as you pass the CFA, you should be good to go. Those scores look fine, but you can probably do a lot better on that mile run. You should try the CFA again.

Are you male or female? That affects a lot.

I agree with the previous post suggesting you attempt to improve your mile time. However, if your scores are sufficient for admission, I guess it's not truly necessary. Better scores just make you more competitive.

If you are a male, I would DEFINITELY improve your mile time. That's a failing mile time if you're a guy.

I'm a male. Based on the posts, I will improve my run time. I know the average is 6:43 but does anyone know a passing time?

Thanky you,

Shoot for the 6:43 on the 1-mile run.
The minimums are not published.
Even us FFRs don't know what they are!

Bingo!

Remember that you mile time doubled plus about 20 seconds is your expected APFT run time. Anything over a 7:40 or so is really pushing the boundary.

Couple more questions. Does having a LOA improve chances on becoming nominated by a MOC? And was there a case where a candidate got an LOA but got denied a nomination?

It depends on the MOC. Each is different.

Yes, some candidates have had LOAs and not received a nomination. If they're truly outstanding candidates, they may receive a VP nomination to get them into the class.

that is a fast shuttle time. Like others posted, the mile time can improve, but I'm sure you passed.

Plebe parent here:

Son was told a couple of things in the course of admissions [that may have changed since last year]:

CFA Passing/failing scores are absolutely not released officially or "unofficially" by Admissions - too many "borderline" scores from when they did, and they take sports history into account.

LOA dependent on "passing score" - which, from information given by Admissions then, could change with the general makeup of the class as they decide throughout a rolling-admissions cycle what bar to set.

New Cadets from entering 2014 class requested to leave for not meeting physical standards: class average scores were low, according to Comm's Facebook page, and there were candidates who had either falsified or totally slacked off since reporting CFA scores.

Bottom line: look at published average, do the best you can honestly, and keep in shape afterward.

When I was Beast cadre years ago, we had a little roly-poly kid from Florida who couldn't do ANYTHING. I mean, this kid was a disaster. We were in the midst of tearing him to shreds after yet another pathetic PT session when he broke down crying and admitted that he never took the PAE (what the CFA used to be called) and had simply put good scores on it and forged his Phys Ed teacher's signature.

He was gone the next day (to the outprocessing barracks). Being able to cut it physically is important. That goes for all aspects of the CFA, but the mile time and PU/SU scores are very important.

Okay. So I just finished my retake on my CFA and got these new scores

throw-68
shuttle-8.1
pullups-9
situps-73
pushups-55
mile-7:50

I eased up on the situps and pushups so that I could improve my mile time. It went down from an 8:17 to a 7:50. Due to my circumstances (LOA said finish application by Dec 3) these are the scores that I will turn in.

I hope these are passing scores.

I have a feeling those should be passing. Good luck. :)
