LOA + Senator Nom = Appointment?

I received an LOA contingent solely on a nomination, and a couple of minutes ago I was told that I received Senator Nelson's (FL) nomination.
Does this mean I'm in?

My DS just found out a few minutes ago that he received nominations for both USMA and USNA, no LOA but we are still in the hunt

Congratulations to you, CandidateElias15! This must be such an exciting day for you. Since I didn't hear, I don't think I received Senator Nelson's nom, but a classmate of mine did for West Point! Awesome job!

You're in assuming you're medically qualified. If you are, you're golden.

Completely up to you CandidateElias15 but I was just wondering if you could give a brief overview of your Class Rank, SAT/ACT, Extra Curriculars, etc.

I was medically qualified July 1st, application completed August 1st, including BGO interview and MOC applications. LOA Received Oct 4th. Verbal Offer of Appointment given from Sen. Nelson's Rep. Dec. 1st.

Class Rank: 35/713 (+/- a couple of people on the denominator, and my rank would only go up after this semester)
I.B. Program; Weighted GPA 5.15, Unweighted 3.74
(I.B. is the highest offered at my school, and I completed the highest Math and Science courses available; AP Calc BC, IB BIO HL)

SAT/ACT 2030(640CR/760M/630WR), 30 Composite ACT (34 Math, I just know the others brought the composite down )
(I know SAT II's arent counted, but since I took them for MIT NROTC, I sent them in the MOC app anyways because of collegeboard, and they asked about them: Math 780, Bio M 720, Physics 650)

Congrats! My advice to you....get yourself into the best shape of your life. Then, get into even better shape. That will be a key to surviving Plebe summer.

...and your parents can worry all the more. My Plebe was in the same situation and every time she came up to bat during her softball season I was secretly hoping she would strike out...so she wouldn't have to run the bases and reinjure the leg she broke the previous season sliding into second base. She didn't of course, and is doing great.

Time to buy a huge roll of bubble wrap.

One piece of advice: take those AP tests. DD is very happy she validated out of Plebe Chemistry.

Osdad: yes, I'm planning to validate Calc 1&2 and physics, lessen the stress of plebe year =)
Does anyone know the "down time" between receiving the nomination, and when it's recorded on CIS and getting the actual blue folder?

Congratulation CandidateElias15. I'm in the same situation as you, haha (but mine is from a rep). I am also wondering how long it takes. I received a seperate USMA nom but only took a few days til my senator called, but I would rather go to USNA. It's confusing though because it's a tough decision.

USNA ...you ARE confused if you think the choice between USNA and the Boot Camp-on-Hudson is confusing!

Don't know if its different than last year, but DS status on CIS never changed to show his appointment or that he accepted his appointment, and he rcvd it in October! (So don't hold your breath!)

Elias: I am not sure those validations will "lessen the stress".........it is my understanding that when you successfully validate courses, say Calc 1 and 2, you will be taking Calc 3 then Differential Equations plebe year. Talk to some current mids about the possibilities. Seems I have heard of some who elect not to validate thus having a more stress free plebe year!

Validating has benefits beyond plebe year. It frees up time on your schedule in later years which allows you to: (1) have more free time in your day, (2) take other classes that interest you, and/or (3) finish your USNA curriculum early and begin graduate studies (VGEP).

My recommendation is that, if you felt good about the validation test and/or feel good about your knowledge of the subject, you might as well accept the validation. I'm not sure you will "enjoy" going over material you've already mastered, even if it may make life "easier."

I fully agree with 85........I was just responding to the sentiment that validating would make plebe year somehow less stressful.......not necessarily so! The benefits manifest themselves later!
