There is a new USMMA flag that is available through the Colorado Parents Association website.

The USMMA crest bordered with 142 gold stars for the KP Mariners that served and lost their lives during WWII on the top and bottom of the flag.

There are 2 sizes and 3 styles. Prices range from $45.00 to $115.00.

You may gain access to the Parents Page in the USMMA website.

Where on the Ga.website is the flag being offered? The website says to click on a link but I can't find it.

$64,000 Question (see how old I am!).......Does The United States Merchant Marine Academy have a flag associated with the instituition, by the institution, for the institution, sanctioned by the institution....etc. etc.

Thank You

Thank you shutterbug for including the GA Flag again.

I could not find it buried in the former threads and was hoping that someone would repost it.

Alumni -- Do you know if there is an official flag???? These are the only ones
that I know of in the last 4 years.

Yes, it's the one the Color Guard carries along with the United States Flag and the Academy Battle Standard...

Ok, Thanks.

Just to clarify....Is that the same one offered by the Georgia parent's association...similar to my Avatar?

I have placed the flag the GA Parent Association as my Avatar ( I hope I did it right) :)

So I didn't want to start any sort of controversy and I am unclear (my memory is fading) as to whether the official flag looks like you avatar and has the words "Kings Point, NY" under the seal or not. I think it is but I went looking for a recent picture of the Color Guard in action on line as they carry the Academy flag between the Department of Transportation Flag and the Academy Battle Standard. However, I couldn't tell for sure if the official flag has those words on them or not in the few recent pictures I was able to locate them.

That said, if we really want to use such a thing to show off, we might all want to consider shifting to the battle standard since while all of the Federal Service Academies have flags, as we know, the USMMA is the only one authorized to carry a battle standard...

OK, I'm dumber than a bag of hammers......can someone please post a pic of the flag that Jasperdog is referring to? Please.

At last count, on this thread alone, there are three (3) different representations of the USMMA flag.

I did find this description and with that it appears to me to be different than both of the Parent Association flags.......believe it or not, I too am not trying to stir something up....just trying to find out what the "official" flag is.

Thanks

All I know is that this is the flag that is hung in the cafeteria, or so I was told. This is the one that the GA Parent's Association gives to all the seniors from GA when they graduate.

I think you answered your own question rather succinctly - your MARAD doc pretty much assures you have the officially sanctioned flag! :) Nice work.

Oh Boy, this is an interesting .......

The Georgia flag looks different (at least to me) than the description of the MARAD document. But, that is from 1992, so something could have changed. However, it would be my opinion (however insignificant that is) that a flag holds some firm place in the hearts and minds of people associated with an instituion, and would not be changed once adopted. (Ok, exceptions to that abound, but those exceptions are based on sound logic....ie the evolution of our United States Flag)

I will find out and communcate back.........

The closest I can come to what the USMMA flag that they carry in their parades is a royal blue background with the emblem in the middle surrounded by links of chain and the words, US Merchant Marine Academy on the top and Kings Point, NY on the bottom and gold fringe trim all around it. Here is a photo off of my facebook page.
