Does USMA value nomination sources differently?

Does USMA value nomination sources differently, such that (for example) a VP nomination means more than a MOC nomination, or a ROTC nomination means less than a Presidential nomination, … that kind of thing?

Or are all nomination sources equal to each other?

I searched but could not find that specific issue, if there is a thread on it please point me to it.

Thanks in advance,

No, to my understanding, they're all the same. Its just one of the prerequisites of being able to be offered an appointment.

From what I've been told, USMA does take into account the the quality of nomination sources, especially for representatives. Like the % of nominees who graduate.

My daughter received nominations from both Senators and also from our District Congressman. The District nom. just showed up today on portal but it is listed twice identically. (so there are a total of 4 there with the two Senatorial) Does this have any significance or was it likely just a data entry error and duplicated by mistake?

GreyHogs: My son's district nomination appeared in the portal yesterday and was listed twice identically, and this also happened yesterday to someone else we know. I am guessing there is no significance to it, but instead there was possibly some glitch in the system yesterday that caused the duplications. Congratulations to your daughter!

It may have something to do with the number of district slots available at that particular academy (max 5 at one time). Can someone confirm?

Thanks Kendr! That suggests it probably was a glitch! That is what i suspected but the complexity of this process makes one read into everything!!!

I have no idea what this means.

Here is the correct answer to the OP:

when you receive a nomination you are competing within that source.
For instance - if you receive only a ROTC nomination you compete with others for a slot who have a ROTC nomination. Since there are only 20 alotted each year - you compete for one of 20 slots.

If you receive a Congressional nomination you compete with others on that slate and then in the National pool or waiting list.

The academy does not 'value' Congressman 'X' nomination more than Congressman 'Y' nor does it 'value a Senator nomination more than a Representative nomination.

Yes, from what I heard from my BGO (I'm for USNA), a nomination is a nomination is a nomination.
Because I got an LOA, and once I got my Senator's nom in late November, I was expecting the appointment. However, my regional director contacted me saying that I would have to wait until my congressional district's slate was entered, so that way Admissions would know to "charge" the appointment from the district rather than the state.
Either way, whether it was "charged" from a Senator or Representative, it doesnt matter much.
