Today I had the opportunity to hear my regional commander say a few words to some appointees in my area, and I thought I'd pass on some statistics he had for us about how admissions is going to far for USMA 2015.

I don't think anyone can dispute the fact that last year was the most competitive year ever for admissions. That being said, there is 14,000 applicants this year - a 20% increase from last year. They will be appointing 1225 for our class.

Just FYI for some of y'all to keep in mind

Thanks for the information. So there was about an 8.75% acceptance rate, nice haha.

You'll have to account for those who are offered appointments but decline. I think scoutpilot said that it was 88% last year who accepted appointments, but its usually around 81%. 8.75% acceptance rate is VERY selective; I think it is more realistically in the low teens percentage-wise.

This. Plus not all of those 14k will be finished files.

I didn't think to take those factors into account haha it was just a quick calculation. But either way, I'm definitely proud to say I'm part of that Class. I can't wait for R-Day

We can just expect that those who get in are of the highest caliber.

That was my hope once too. Unfortunately, the SA's (and all colleges for that matter) recruit people based on their athletic performance. This is no generalization in any way of recruited athletes...I'm sure some of them have a willingness to serve, but I personally know guys who are here or are trying to get here simply for the prestige of playing D1 for one of our nation's service academies. It also seems that more often than not, those who get in trouble are recruits.

On a lighter note...

Congratulations on the appointment!!
