Hearing back from NROTC

Hey everyone,
I just have a quick question for you guys before I go out of my mind waiting to hear back. I have applied for Marine Option ROTC and on my status page it says that my "Science Teach Eval" has yet to be fully processed. Now, I sent my package in around late September (in time) and my friend just sent his in during mid October--yet his status says everything has been processed.

So my questions. Am I just on the brink and they are delaying my app because they are not sure? Have they yet to get my science teacher recommendation? Is the online status simply incorrect?

My coordinator just told us that he expects to hear this week but I guess I am just worried that he wont hear back for me (or, of course, that I wont get it). So does anyone know what is going on?

Sorry for all the questions, I guess you could say I am freaking out. Thanks.

I can understand your anxiousness.

My son applied for the NROTC Marine Option months ago. He heard "unofficially" that he had earned the scholarship in mid-Nov and then heard "officially" last week - all verbal nothing in writing. As of today, we still have nothing in writing.

His online status showed multiple items to be processed all along. In fact, it just changed to show nothing left to process this week. It still shows no decision however.

He did check several times with his recruiter to make sure they had everything - they kept assuring him they did.

So our conclusion is that this online status tool is updated at a notoriously slow rate. However, you may want to check with your recruiting contact and ask them to check for you.

Best wishes

What all evals did you have to get filled out? I only had english teacher, guidance counselor, and "other" (I chose JROTC Instructor)

Well I had been told that the English evaluation didnt necessarily have to be an English teacher so I had a History, Math, and Guidance evaluations sent.

...could that information have been wrong?

I have absolutely no idea. This process has been so frustrating with the lack of help and information. If it wasn't my absolute life goal and dream to become a Marine I probably would've given up on it by now...

I just checked the "Application Information Checklist" pdf file and it states:

"Provide the names, mailing addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses for three required references: 1) a guidance counselor/school administrator; 2) a math, science, or English teacher (depending on program option), and 3) another teacher, counselor, coach, or employer"

I would add that the "Application Information Checklist" also suggests:

"We highly suggest you contact your coordinator/recruiter to have them review your application before you make the final submission. Once you click on the final submit button, you will not be able to access it or make changes."

My son did this with his recruiter.

So our conclusion is that this online status tool is updated at a notoriously slow rate.

Probably the understatement of 2010. If the NROTC status page was a news feed this might be the headline around about now:

USMCGrunt,

I've also read this but its doesn't tell me anything. It says math, science, or english depending on the option. Not what is specifically required for Marine Option as opposed to Navy or Navy Nurse. Also, I have done everything through my assigned recruiter/coordinator and he doesn't know any more than I do.

FloridaDad,
LOL

MorganC,

I hear you. The process is unclear at times. I did check my son's actual application and it asked the following:

1. Please supply the name and address of your counselor who will be completing your transcript and overall academic performance information.

2. Please supply the name and address of your teacher who will be completing your English evaluation.

3. Please supply the name and address of your Teacher, Counselor, Coach, or Employer who will be completing your other evaluation.

I assume you saw the same when you did yours?

keep folllowing up with your recruiter/liaison, he was our best and most active advocate. Do you know if your application was complete or are they still waiting on reccomendations from your teachers? The most important lesson we have learned from the entire USNA and scholarship process, is to follow up on everything!

Yes sir I had the same thing but my status page says my science teacher eval is waiting to be processed. I figure its just some type of error on the website. This waiting game is no fun.

Morgan, have you checked with your science teacher to see if he has submitted his reccomendation?

Well I just talked to my coordinator and he said he reviewed my application when he was sending it and that everything was in order. I didnt get to ask about the English recommendation because he left a message, however he did say not to worry about the online status. Which is certainly reassuring.

Haha and yes, the Titanic sinking just might be news if NROTC ran media around here...

CandidateinSD,

I didn't submit a science teacher evaluation. My recruiter told me my package was ready and was reviewed by the first board and he said he'd call when he heard anything. I think I'll shoot him an email just to see if he knows anything,

I would do that, I know that the first board has met and assigned scholarships, my son received notification of his approximately a week ago. They sent an email and then it was followed up with an official letter. Keep looking in the mail box, I'm sure you'll hear soon.

This is literally killing me! I just want to know...and with all my friends posting on Facebook how they got into this and that college I want something to show for all my hard work...waiting waiting waiting.

My sons application was a little different, they perused him once he did the online piece. The Navy sent someone to his school to pick up his transcript and talk to his Colonel. They even offered to send a car to collect him for an interview.

Everything was done, yet the the online system has showed the same status for two months.

I could also use some tips & advice. My son did not get the nomination for USNA so we are really hoping for NROTC. His application packet is complete and submitted to the Board a week before Thanskgiving. We were advised to just check online. He has been accepted for the Engineering program for 2nd school choice, but not on the Engineering program for 1st school choice. He is asking that school to admit him for Gen Arts & Sciences. How does this school assignement work? 1)Does it matter with ROTC if one is accepted for Undecided/Arts &Sciences & not for Engineering?; 2) Would ROTC help in placing the student in the school he got accepted to if he is offered the schoalrship?. When should we expect to hear? THANK YOU and pardon my long inquiry. This is all foreign to us.

I was told that the scholarships are awarded to specific or even multiple schools that you have on your 'wish list' that offer NROTC as long as they have open slots but the major is non negotiable. That has to be declared on the application
