Dear Service Academy Forum,
I'm a high school junior from San Diego, CA (which is good because there's less competition for Army in a Navy town!).
However, I'm worried about my chances of getting into USMA and USMA Summer Seminar because I hear it's pretty competitive.
My stats:
GPA: 4.367 weighted / 4.000 unweighted
Class rank: 4th out of 424 (top 1%)
SAT: 690 math, 700 verbal, 740 writing
ACT: 31 math, 29 english, 35 science, 25 reading (This particularly worries me), 28 writing
PSAT: 63 verbal (this worries me too), 72 math, 67 writing
Varsity Wrestling for two years, lettered once (currently in my third season, I should letter again)
Life Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. I was also the Senior Patrol Leader of my troop.
I am the President and Founder of the Service Academy/ROTC Club at my high school (we help people who are applying to academies and inform the student body about what the military has to offer).
I'm pretty happy with my SAT scores and I don't plan on taking them again, but do you think I should?
Also, I plan on taking the ACT again this spring (2011).
So, I know admissions are tough for West Point, do I have a shot?
