Bad Grade, what now?

So, semester grades just came out and I received 4 A's and one D.

I'm a college student (Sophomore), ROTC Cadet (MSII/Four year scholarship winner), I've received higher than average marks on the ACT and my college grades are good, I don't have any other deficiencies on my entire transcript. I received a congressional nomination in a not so competitive district as well as a nomination from my senator and a nomination from my PMS. I was placed on the National Wait List a few months ago, so I know I'm 3Qed. Before this sub-par grade, I've been told that I have a pretty good shot at receiving an appointment.

I've kept in touch with my regional commander, I informed him that I would receive this grade before it was official. I was told that they would have to evaluate my semester transcript and deduce whether or not it was because of lack of trying or lack of understanding. Of course, a lack of trying would be a lot worse in this situation.

I suppose I would like to know how severely this deficiency hinders my chances at receiving an appointment. I would hope that the other grades I received displayed that it was not because a lack of trying.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that if your number comes up, you're good to go. You'll be doing (presumably) these same courses over at WP as a Plebe, unless you validated them all out during Beast, and that gpa is a shade under 3.5 in the sophomore college semester. See what the RC says and as always, JMHO. Good Luck :thumb:
 
I know this is more of an opinionated question, so any input is fine.

I know when I have my transcript evaluated they take every grade into consideration with great detail. I received the D in an upper level course of Chemistry, I did considerably better in my general chemistry courses, so I would hope that helps a bit. Also, this course was not a requirement for my current major, I don't know if that would help at all, but you could see where my other courses might have taken precedence over this one.

I hope they at least wait until after next semester to write me off, I know my grades can be better and hopefully impressive, but I suppose only time will tell.

If anyone has a thought, feel free to weigh in.

Like it has been stated before, admissions would be the ones to ask.

IMO although it wasn't required for your major, Chemistry is required at USMA and you chose to take it. As far as the other courses taking precedence: You got an A in all of them so it seems that you would have been able to transfer over some time to the course that needed it. Remember, time management is important and once you commit to a course by adding it to your schedule, it is equally important.

What's done is done, just look ahead and learn from this. When you're in a race, all looking back does is slow you down and cause you to trip on the next obstacle. Just keep in contact with admissions and see what they say. I am sure your regional commander has picked up on how much you want this and will vouch for you. Good luck! :thumb:
 
Well, I just got word from my admissions contact and it looks like I'm going to be considerably lucky. There's still a lot of work ahead of me but I've been assured that if I do my job and finish this college semester well, I should be good to go. Thank God for second chances. Thanks for all the input.
