I have two options for honors courses in the spring at my college.

Astronomy or Psychology

Which one would the academy like better? Does it matter?

physics, chem, Western Civ, or calculus 2 ...why those 2???neither's a make-or-break course for USNA

flip a coin - astronomy could help with celestial nav, psych for leadership, but how about a really rigorous English grammar and composition? or trig?

just chose what you are more passionate about. (just another candidate's advice).

USNA won't care too much about what you take 2nd semester at college in terms of ADMISSIONS. What is important is what you have taken and the grades you received.

In terms of which will help you more if you receive an appointment, as said above, flip a coin. Courses that will really help are those that will allow you to get ahead in or validate a USNA course. Since neither of your choices is offered at USNA, it really doesn't matter.

Thus, if those are your only choices, pick the one you'd enjoy more. If you have a choice, do as 1964 above says and pick something like Chem, Physics, English, History, Calculus, etc. Also, a non-honors course in the above would be a better choice than honors in the 2 course you mentioned -- for USNA purposes, that is.

Yes I am taking Chem, Physics, Math and all that but those were the honors courses I had available.

Well, I think what most are suggesting that merely being honors courses does not trump taking more appropriate subject area courses ...for USNA purposes.

However, you need to also consider your own plan B and C ...i.e. those institutions and courses that might "fit" or complement their needs. As you know, USNA appointments are like hens teeth ...scarce. even for the best of students. Thus, USNA may not be your sole consideration in this issue?
