If I request that they change my Type 7 4-year scholarship to a Type 2 3-year scholarship, and I don't get in to the our of state schools, would I be able to convert it back to an in-state scholarship?

Can I use the Type 2 3-yr at one of the in-state schools or must I go out of state?

Not trying to be pessimistic, but my out-of-state schools are very competitive (Cornell & Stanford). So, it would help to understand what the consequences are if I don't get in.

So if they allow it as a 3-Year Type 2 I am committed to going out of state and cannot then go to an in-state school (w/ an AFRTOC scholarship anyway)?

You can use a Type 2 scholarship either in-state or out-of-state. The question I cannot answer is what happens if you trade in your 4 year Type 7 for a 3 year Type 2 and then try to trade it back in again for a 4 year Type 7 because you were not accepted at any of your out-of-state colleges. You might want to call somebody at AFROTC for an answer to whether you can change it more than once.

FWIW - My advice is to keep your Type 7 scholarship if you have an in-state public college acceptance. Trade "up" to a Type 2 only AFTER you have an OOS acceptance that you'd rather attend. Just my opinion....

Thanks. I'll call tomorrow to find out if I have to ask for the upgrade by January 13th or whether I can accept the type 7 and ask for an upgrade later.
