I am assuming (correct me if I am wrong) that if anything were to happen to you at the academy they would cover the medical fees and that they have their own hospital. Do they have some kind of health insurance for you while you are at leave/liberty?

Patton Hall will take care of every need including dental. Please promise me that you'll get your wisdom teeth removed before you enter. That can be a complete nightmare as it is not covered by the academy. All in all, Patton will take care of you so no worries. There are some great folks there. As I've advised in the past, have your parents keep you on their coverage. This is for any illness you should get that is not with the realm of minor illness & injury. If you should be injured while on sea year or while at home, when you seek medical attention, be sure to give the Patton Hall address instead of your home address.

Haha, thanks! And yes, I got my wisdom teeth pulled out already. I looked like I had oranges for cheeks!

medical

So far most everything was taken care of at Patten...however about a month ago my son developed a kidney stone and patten sent him to a specialist. Patten required my son to give them his Blue Cross/Blue Shield card (luckly it was Empire BC/BS because husband's company is HQ in NY) and it cost me a total of $27 out of pocket:biggrin: So, I guess you have to keep your health insurance in place while at KP.

The USMMA doesn't pay your medical insurance/bills while you attend? That sucks.

My son had a hernia operation last winter and was hospitalized for 4 days this fall with a MERSA Staff Infection. The peope at KP were wonderful about keeping us informed of what was happening, classmates and KP parents were absolutely great, visiting, bringing him whatever he needed from school, etc. We have not seen a single bill.:thumb:
