Do you know if theres any possible way to become a SNA with lower than 20/40 vision?
For example, become an NFO, earn the pin, then transfer?

Just curious, how often do the services let people get corrective eye surgery?

Short answer: OFTEN! At least @ USNA. By the dozens. Bus 'em over to Bethesda. This has become common place.

Conversely, anyone taking on the task of correction prior to or even during USNA appointment ...goose is cooked, n'er to see the light of the sky!

So.. what does this mean? Sorry I'm being rather ignorant..
If I dont pass that 20/40 vision test, I have no shot of beign a Navy Pilot?
Or will they "bus me over to Bethesda" for PRK/Lasik?

USNA provides PRK surgery for MANY Mids! While there are no doubt medical/physical prerequisites, you'd likely be a great candidate. This is not done until 2/C year in most cases, never prior to that.

And I know it's old hat info, but merits clarification and reiteration for anyone(s) considering USNA and vision correction. If it's done prior to appointment, there will be none. It is an automatic DQ.

A pilot applicant is a pilot applicant no matter the route they take. Doesn't matter if you've been an NFO for 10 years or straight off the street, you still need to meet the 20/40 requirement.

Now, as mentioned above, laser eye surgery is "the path" to meet the 20/40 requirement for pilot if you have eyesight worse than that. Also mentioned above, if you have laser eye surgery BEFORE going to USNA you will be disqualified from attending.

Once at USNA you can be screened for eye surgery and as long as you meet 20/40 or better after that you will be able to get a waiver for the history of eye surgery.
