What happens to all of the items we bring on r-day that west point won't allow us to use or have during the 6 weeks of training, but can have once the academic school year starts? (i.e, cell phones)

They will most likely be stored in a secure location until you are authorized to have them. Can anybody confirm this?

They are stored in your bag in the CBT company trunkroom.

My cadet only took the bare minimum to Beast. We brought his cell phone (charged) to him on A-Day. He was so busy during Reorgy Week that he wouldn't have had a chance to talk / text anyway. He had his laptop so he was able to check in by email.

I think I remember folks recommending if you do take your cell phone and store it in your civilian bag during CBT to put it in a hard case to protect it. I think the bags are piled on top of each other and things can be damaged.

The bag I brought to Rday was literally empty when I left it behind for my flight back. i brought nothing but the minimum suggested items. I put together a small bag of things I wanted my parents to bring me on A day and left that at home.

Would you recommend bringing compression shorts and extra socks? At enlisted basic anyway, they do not issue any compression shorts when I went through which would have been a nice bonus for running; and they only issued us one pack of green socks (3 pair) for the whole duration. I also have some thicker socks I like to wear for rucking. Would I be allowed to retain these if I bring some?

Compression shorts and extra socks were really useful. Just make sure it is the green ACU socks. Also, make sure the compression shorts are solid black without any logos that may stick out of our shorts.

vampsoul, that's what my cadet did and he was glad he didn't drag along everything he owned. Less is more! Some of those lists we saw would have meant renting a U-Haul just to get him to R-Day!

goarmytm, you can take compression shorts and my cadet was grateful for them. He also took a couple of pairs of green socks but I think I remember him saying they issued plenty of everything. However, when given the opportunity during Beast, he did purchase better underwear at the C-Store.

Thanks. 15 mile marches without them aren't much fun, I'm not a fan of chafing.
