I've had my file completed since the beginning of this month, I was found medically qualified by DoDMERB back in July, and I passed the CFA about 3 or 4 months ago. Along with that, I feel that I am academically qualified, not only with my high school career, but also with my first semester at college. However, I still have not received word from Admissions about my triple qualified status. What does this mean?

My DS was in the same situation. He never received an official 3Q letter. But he did receive a call last night from his MOC that he's been appointed.

If you are on the NWL, I suspect that you will get a letter to that effect in the coming weeks.

DS is a current cadet and he never received a 3Q'd letter. In fact, he had very little correspondence from West Point at all, but the BFE is all that really matters anyway.

Congrats to your son patentesq!

Dixieland, when did he receive his BFE? Was it around March?

Peter, DS received his BFE around the middle of last January. No LOA, no SLS, only SA he applied to. He was fortunate to have his senatorial interview in November and had a nomination before Christmas. No call from anyone telling him he had an appointment---just found the envelope leaning up against the garage where the mailman had left it. Never heard from the Senator at any point. He found out the next weekend that he had an ROTC scholarship.

Ah, I see. I have one nomination from my congressman and my senator so far, and I haven't been notified of anything as of yet.

The waiting is very unpleasant and distracting. DS tried to turn his focus to other things that had nothing to do with WP.

I'll probably end up doing the same. I figured it's out of my hands now...I've done everything they've asked me to do and it's all up to them to decide whether I am admissible or not.

More than likely the following contributed to you not getting your 3Q letter

- most cases, West Point requires first semester transcript for college students and without it they won't qualify you academically (I am assuming you sent it recently)
- this time of the year, everything slows down due to sheer volume of application material coming in,
- I didn't get my 3Q letter until April (1990). Makes me feel very old.

I have sent my transcripts...it was sent towards the middle of January. I guess it's all up to admissions now.

Peter - if you have questions about your application and it's progress or viability; please do not hesitate to address this with your Regional Commander or MALO.

If you can make a candidate visit, I urge you to do so. Not only is it a great opportunity but as a part of that visit you will be granted a sit down, one on one with an admissions officer who will pull your file and review it in front of you.

Go to the source!! Show the love!!

I think the way they do it is that if you are going to receive an appointment and they already found you qualified they don't see the point of sending you a 3Q letter.

JAM, I think I'll probably do that sometime this weekend.

GSKeziah, I hope this is what this means.

OK So I haven't seen the answer to this yet (or maybe I missed it)... Anyway, what does 3Q mean? Does the academy wait to offer a (possible) appointment until a waiver is approved, or can they do it before? Thanks

3Q means you are triple qualified. In other words, the Academy feels that you are scholastically qualified, medically qualified, and physically qualified. Once you are 3Q'd, you are seen as admissible. However, you must still compete for an appointment because each year, about 2000 or so kids are seen as triple qualified. Only about half of those kids are ever offered appointment.

They only give you a conditional appointment before your waiver is approved if you have an LoA, conditional meaning that you keep your grades up in school, get qualified medically, pass the CFA, and earn a nomination. Those who do earn LoA's and don't meet those requirements cannot earn an appointment. If you didn't earn an LoA (and it's too late to earn an LoA now), you must get your waiver approved before they consider you for an appointment.

BTW, congrats Sarah!

OK Thanks That's kind of what we thought. AROTC approved the waiver 3 Jan, so hopefully WP will come through soon. All else is good :)

is it possible to schedule a visit if you dont have an appointment? i thought you were only allowed to visit if you received an appointment

You can schedule a visit without an appointment. If you have an appointment, you can schedule an overnight visit.

just scheduled a day visit for feb. 14. although the online form did have an option for an overnight. this isn't a sign that I got an appointment, is it?
