I was informed yesterday that my 1 page resume never made it to Maxwell...thanks USPS. Does anyone know of any exceptions that can be made to the deadlines due to things like this??

Keep the faith. The requirement for AFROTC is that everything must be "postmarked" by January 8 -- there is no requirement that the document must be "received" by January 8: http://www.afrotc.com/scholarships/

I would call them first thing tomorrow morning and explain the situation. You did what was required, as long as you got the thing postmarked before January 8.

The law is also on your side because there is a federal evidentiary presumption (in legal circles, we call it "The Mailbox Rule") whenever you hand a letter off to the Post Office that it will be delivered to the properly addressed recipient. Here's how the United States Supreme Court has described it:

“The rule is well settled that if a letter properly directed is proved to have been either put into the post office or delivered to the postman, it is presumed, from the known course of business in the post office department, that it reached its destination at the regular time, and was received by the person to whom it was addressed. As was said by Gray, J., ‘the presumption so arising is not a conclusive presumption of law, but a mere inference of fact founded on the probability that the officers of the government will do their duty and the usual course of business, and when it is opposed by evidence that the letters never were received, must be weighed with all the other circumstances of the case, by the jury in determining the question whether the letters were actually received or not.’ The presumption that a letter was received is based on such considerations that it is perfectly clear that it applies without regard to the contents of the letter.”

Please tell me you sent it registered or certified!

The problem is you waited for verification of receipt after the board met, why didn't you contact them around the 15th so you could have at least overnighted it.

The one thing you will learn in the military is don't assume anything when it comes to deadlines, always double check everything before the boards meet.

I would contact Maxwell today and see how you can rectify the situation. If you did send it registered or certified, than you have absolute proof to submit to them you did everything as directed. However, if you didn't than you need to be prepared on your next course of action in this matter.

Not to be rude, but pretend your on the other side of the phone, you said you mailed it, but have no proof, how do they know you are being honest and just didn't realize until yesterday that you missed the date, so now you will say it was the Post Offices fault.
