I was just wondering, how do they decide who to invite to these? Or do they invite everyone that is competitive?
 
Some invitations are initiated by Admissions, others come from recommendations by AC's or BGO's via the RD's, and some develop from requests by candidates to their RD's. Generally they are indicators of interest in a candidate based upon an assessment of the candidate's file. An AC or BGO may request a CWV for a candidate who seems to be sitting on the fence with an offer. Also have requested a visit for a candidate who was very desirable, but really didn't seem to know what the academy was all about. We try not to send a candidate to the academy who doesn't have a good grasp on what they are going to encounter.
 
Okay thakn you very much. So I received an invite to one. I have a LOA and three nominations; however, I need a waiver for color deficiency. I take it this invite means nothing?
 
It means USNA is offering you a unique opportunity to spend some time with the Brigade of Midshipmen and actually see a small segment of the overall experience of being a Plebe . It's another tool to assist you in your final decision to accept an appointment if one is extended. Sleeping inside Bancroft, eating in King Hall, attending classes , participating in SMT with the Plebes, asking your host questions about USNA one-on-one and getting all sorts of opinions in response .... truly a great experience that should be strongly considered if at all possible:thumb:
 
Being offered a CVW is a good sign that you'll receive an appointment -- it is NOT a guarantee. CVWs are offered for the benefit of highly qualified candidates -- if you're offered the opportunity to attend, I recommend you do so. Not attending won't hurt you from an admissions standpoint, but you are turning down yet another opportunity to find out if USNA is right for you.

To 1964BGO, in an earlier post you used the term "AC." What does that stand for? Thanks.
 
AC=Area Coordinator... the Blue and Gold Officer who is responsible for coordinating the activities and assignments of the Blue and Gold Officers within an assigned area. E.G., Ohio is divided into four geographic areas by USNA Admissions, Northwest, Northeast, Central and Southeast, and Southwest. Each of those areas has a designated Area Coordinator who manages an assigned area. In some instances there may be only one Area Coordinator for a whole state, depending upon geographic area or population distribution.
 
How does you find out who your AC is? Son has met the B&G officer, done the interview and rewceived a nomination but that is it. Is a typical candidate supposed to have any contact with the AC?

Do you mean the Regional Director? That person is listed on the candidate's portal through the USNA. Their email address is listed.
 
Navy IC Coaches

Do Navy's IC coaches have any input on who gets an invitation to CVW?

By IC do you mean Inter-collegiate? If so, the NCAA has strict rules for official visits. Check with the coach.
