What kind of restrictions, if any, are there on the use of USMA-issued laptops? For example, can cadets bring them home and/or use them for personal/non-WP uses? Can they download software themselves? If so, are there restrictions on what type of software can be downloaded? In short, I'm wondering if most cadets have their WP laptop, but still keep a "home" laptop for personal use.

They can use them for personal use but there are restrictions such as no peer to peer software like skype. Inappropriate websites are also blocked.

I have seen a few people with personal laptops but the majority don't have an extra one. Keep in mind, even with a personal laptop you will be using the USMA network and need to follow their rules unless you get wireless from your cellphone or something which may be difficult since the reception in most barracks sucks.

Are cadets allowed to install an additional operating system on a separate partition of the computers?

Wow, I can't believe cadets still have to use Windows Vista...

DoD does not adopt new software until it has been proven to be reliable for some time. Windows 7 should qualify soon.

Do they care what browser you use? IE? Chrome (my preference)? Firefox? Safari?

No, I have Internet Explorer, Safari, and Firefox on mine. (certain websites work better with a specific one) I know Firefox is fairly popular and I am pretty sure Safari came installed in my computer (I had never heard about it before so I know I didn't download it).

Do they let you choose between the Alliance or Horde races?

Sorry I couldn't resist:yllol:

Oovoo seems to be the most popular.

But coming from someone whose roommate is on Oovoo 24/7, please do not be one of those people. Even if you are the most squared away cadet in the corps, your roommate will still want to rip out your vocal cords and destroy your computer :shake:.
