First, welcome to SAF!

My info may be dated, but I think all of the SMCs share roughly the same admissions standards. They are all looking for smart leaders. The one thing I can safely tell you is that you have ZERO chance with any of them if you don't apply. As such, I would apply to all of them and see which one takes an interest in you.

No one here can tell you about your chances, because you haven't provided enough detail about your athletics, ECs, AP classes, etc. It is not just about GPA and SAT scores. I would think you need to work on your SAT scores, though. You have to sell yourself. Even if your were "in the zone" for SAT scores, why would you not seek to improve them to increase your chances of obtaining a scholarship?

Given that you're a junior, you should retake the SATs and take a review course before you do. Also, sign up for ECs, high school sports, leadership positions, etc. Also, visit collegeconfidential.com to see the stats for the Class of 2014 and see where you line up.

Again, apply to all of them. Apply early. Even if you re-posted with additional stats, my advice would remain the same.

Good luck!

I would parrot what Patentesq has provided said to you. You are a junior so nothing is fixed in stone for you yet- retake the SAT's would certainly be something concrete that you can do to boost your numbers quickly. You have a semester just starting- Blowing it away grade-wise would be another thing in your control.
I certainly can't tell you your chances- I can however post a link to the Class of 2014 profile for VMI. Keep in mind- that those are averages not absolutes - so like Patentesq points out - you have zero chance if you don't apply and little to be lost if you do.
What are you interested in? Why do you want to go to an SMC? These are the kind of place that you really need to know that you want to be at, so check them out- sign up for a visitation weekend at the ones you are most intereted in and do what you can to strengthen your record between now and next summer.

Good luck

I expected you would re-post. :thumb: My advice remains the same. It's terrific that you are on this site early and learning more about the process. This will guide you as you self-reflect and figure out where your weak spots might be. Bruno is 1000% correct in his sound advice to you. You have time on your side.

Good luck.

You have a chance at getting into all of those schools. : D Good luck!

As for the OP, you list really good schools there. You may also want to check out the Military Junior Colleges (MJC's) that offer the Early Commissioning Program (ECP). The advantages of the ECP are numerous from a short-range financial standpoint and from a career standpoint. The "down side" is that this only applies to those wanting an Army commission.

Good luck!

i can tell you that pretty much every college civilian or military you will have a roomate at least during your freshman year. I don't know specifics about north georgia, but here at Valley Forge (one of the MJCs) you have one roomate, sleep on bunk beds, and live in rooms that are about 10 x 8 minus desks, wall lockers, and beds. i would imagine most other military schools are similar

At VMI - life is pretty spartan: you will sleep on a wooden frame cot (your rack) and will rollup your mattress and fold and stack your rack every morning prior to breakfast and have 3 or 4 roomates. Each of the cadets in the room has a desk in the center of the room & You are not allowed to have Civilian clothes in your room. The room will look something like this :

and the view outside the room looking into barracks will look like:

As you can see- it's a very "homey" atmosphere- especially your if current home happens to be a penitentiary:eek:. None the less- you actually grow to love it even while you hate it:confused:

I wish I could tell you about North Georgia- i don't know much about it though there are a few posters on board here who can give you more information. I am certain however that they will issue you uniforms and that you will be living in a dorm reserved for the Corps of Cadets so that you will not be living with Civilian students.

Wow!! Each VMI cadet gets a balcony with their room??? Norwich cadets would get laughed at if they ever requested that!

Check out the "homey" barracks at Norwich!

are there any ways that the smcs are different from each other?
