Now that it is early February, is there an approximate date for when the AIM applications will be available? Thanks in advance.

From the CGA website:

The 2011 AIM application will be available in early February and will remain open until April 1, 2011. While you are waiting for the AIM application, please complete an online profile so we can outreach to you once the application has gone live.

So if you've completed the profile you will be notified automatically when it comes live.

AIM application will open tomorrow (2/2)...we decided to wait until the 2015 application closed. We probably won't send out the notification e-mail until Friday, but it should be there tomorrow!

Decisions on Applications

Thanks for the information. Is my understanding correct that the Academy sends out decision letters in one mailing, rather than making decisions on a rolling basis? From what I can tell, Army and Air Force use a rolling acceptance process. Navy's application period opened today, so DS doesn't have experience with them yet, but he was advised to apply early (and did). If my understanding is correct that the Academy sends out decision letters in one mailing, is there any benefit to applying early?

I don't remember precisely when I applied (March maybe?) but I definitely didn't apply super early on. I got in for the third week last summer, and yeah I believe notifications come out all at one time.

AIM was a great experience, if you have questions feel free to ask via replies or a PM

So I've just started looking at USCGA and I was wondering what exactly do you do at AIM

AIM is an in depth look at what it is like to attend USCGA. My cadre said that AIM is more accurate to what it is actually like than the other service academies' summer seminars which basically try to sell you the school. It went from Sunday to Saturday and it was the most challenging week I have ever faced in my life. AIM definitely tests what you're made of. You not only get to experience what it's like being at the bottom of the barrel in your first year there, but you get to do some cool stuff like sailing, inter-company sports, listen to guest speakers, tour parts of the school, drill, and there is an engineering competition at the end of the week. AIM is one of the greatest things I've done in my life, and even though I am not pursuing USCGA, I have very fond memories of my AIM experience and do not regret going in the least. You guys probably have a lot of questions, I think I'll start a thread about my experience and you guys can ask more specific questions there. I'll get to work on that now, so look for it soon.

A question on applying to AIM. Is it best to apply immediately with mediocre PSAT scores or wait until much better SAT scores come available on Feb 10th?

PSAT/SAT/PLAN/ACT scores are not required to apply for AIM, but any scores you submit will definitely be considered. You could just complete the online application/essays now and then send the SAT scores in with your high school transcript (required) once they're available.

Is there an advantage in getting your application in and complete early or is your chance the same so long as your application is complete prior to the closing date?
Thanks

No advantage to applying early...all applications submitted by April 1st are read/reviewed.
