I am a proud grandfather of a C4C and am curious about an alleged "fighter pilot celebratory beverage" called Jeremiah Weed. I heard this name several times during Falcon football season. My question concerns which Jeremiah Weed is being referenced, inasmuch as there are several varieties available? I would appreciate assistance with this prior to the Falcon win over Georgia Tech. Thank you

The Jeremiah Weed that you are referring to is the 100 proof bourbon liqueur. Yes, there are blended bourbon, tea flavored, etc... but it's the 100% that is the fighter pilot tradition. (Google has a lot of good web sites).

FWIW: I, and my wife, actually like the taste of Jeremiah Weed. We don't drink it regularly, but every time there's a serious military related toast, we bring out "Mr. Weed".

THANK YOU

Thank you, CC. Your good offices will now allow my wife and I to vicariously join a fine old tradition. Again, I thank you.

It is also called "Weed".

It is to be kept in the freezer.

CC and I disagree on the taste, because I say it is like drinking Nyquil. Just the thought of drinking it makes me do the shoulder shakes.

It is a tradition. In the fighter world you make Betty beaccch and you have to buy a bottle for the bar. Beaaching is when Betty says Over G, Over G. Betty is what they call the voice system in the jet...AND YES, she says OVER G. That is relayed back to the squadron, thus, before landing the squadron knows she BEAACHHED!

The true beauty of "Weed" is it is the shot that EVERY Airmen takes at every function for the comrades lost in battle.

In our home we actually have shell casings that are used when a toast is made, and the only thing poured is Weed or Bulleit Bourbon.

Weed is the AF way to pay homage to other AF members.

OBTW there is another tradition, leave something in the plane that the maintenance crew finds and you have to buy a CASE of beer for retrieving.

The other tradition...if people get on your ROOF...no matter what time you must feed them food and booze, that is why every flier has beer in their fridge. Trust me, we got stomped at 3 a.m., I had no problem feeding them because I laughed as Bullet took the garden hose and aimed it at them. It was worth it see them freak out when the hose turned on. We were never stomped on again!

Thank you, pima

Thank you, PIMA, for that information. I suspected an Air Force protocol with "Weeds" usage, but I had no idea it is such an interesting and significant tradition.

Yes... Betty's G-Spot. That's what many around CNA (Camp New Amsterdam) would call it.

Football season, I/We toast every weekend. But we toast at the club on base pretty much whenever. "I don't get to the club on base too often any more". Weed is not the type of drink you have on a regular basis; but a shot occasionally isn't bad at all.

Rule 1:

It is WEED never Weeds.

Here is how to do a WEED shot:

The host makes the toast.

You consume in one full gulp!

When done you take the shot glass and turn it upside down over your CRANIUM!

You never ever say the word that begins with "H" regarding what is over your shoulders. It is always SKULL, CRANIUM, etc.

If you do say "HXXX" than you will hear from the group:

"HXXX"

Who said "HXXX"

That is the fighter world.

BTW:

Weed is the lowest on "getting the protocol"! Crud is the true fighter world. No 6 and names for game calls will make you say WOW!

Here's my suggestion instead of Weed:

Go to the Johnny Walker site.
You can get a label made for free.
Buy a bottle of scotch through them and get a label made with his name.

Drink that in his honor!

When he gets UPT and graduates from UPT buy him a bottle of Weed, but right now he is 18, and if you serve it to friends, they will do the shoulder shake like you do when you take cough syrup for a cold.

CC may enjoy the taste, and we joke about this, to me, it is cough syrup!

A nice bottle of Johnny with a free label in his name when you entertain SAYS IT ALL!

Johnny, Cutty, and some others USE to be fine. UNTIL I went TDY to Scotland. Took a trip through the "Whiskey Trail". Since then.... It's ALWAYS single malt scotch. Glenn "ANYTHING" is pretty much a go. Haven't had a Johnny Walker since Soesterberg when my "F-15 Buds" got me drunk and "TRIED" to teach me how to do carrier landings on lined up tables at the club. (HINT: Don't wear a belt with a big buckle). Of course, the new "Wing-King" came in and got a little upset because we pretty well trashed the place. The look on his face when he asked: "Where's the (Bleeping) bar tender who allowed this crap"? ... and I replied... "Sir, I AM the bartender". He got over it, but I stopped drinking Johnny on that day. God, I miss those days. That was 1982 B.C. (Before Children). The good ole days.

P.S. "WEED" can be used as a "VERB". e.g. Hey, you wanna weed tonight? or an adverb. e.g. Hey, what's wrong with you? I've been "Weeded".

DEAD BUG! :yikes:

Back in AK, one of our friends accidentally made Betty talk. After that it became a "Well, I owe 1 bottle already let's go for 2!" He actually brought in 3 bottles and said "Credit for the next time!":shake:

Have to say nothing is funnier than watching 35 yo men hit the floor, because you know us wives we were too busy yakking to hear it and all of the sudden you just saw everyone drop.

Funnier still is it is amazing how agile they are. I can't recall ever seeing one person spill an ounce of their drink when they dropped.

Of course they guarded the drink because they didn't want people screaming alcohol abuse and be forced to buy a round!

The AF has some very unique traditions. I double dog dare anyone to walk into a bar with cranium cover on.

Same dare for anyone who wants to learn about Crud and reads the rules in the bar.

For cadets, candidates and parents here is a treat that you can start in your home now to acclimate to the AF life.

COMBAT CORN

1/4 jar of jalapenos and juice
Oil
popcorn ---not microwave
Cayenne Pepper
Popcorn salt

In Oil, fry jalapenos and juice until just starting to lightly brown. Add popcorn to cover oil. Pop the old fashion way. Once done sprinkle lightly with pepper and salt, stir. The jalapenos will be dark brown.

The hotter you want it, the more jalapenos and juice you need to add.

Beware it becomes spicier as it sits.

I make at least one batch of this per week in our house, if I am lucky it lasts 36 hours.

I can live without Weed, but not without combat corn.

Weed any good as a whiskey sub in mixed drinks? I got a 100 proof bottle looking for work...

Weed is a lot thicker. Almost like a liquor. (spelling). Sort of like the consistency of schnapps. I have tried it with pepsi. It's ok; nothing special. I prefer to just drink it in shots. "Not a lot". However; if you go to the jeremiah weed website, you'll find all sorts of ideas. They have different types of jeremiah weed also. Not just the bourbon that we speak of.

A Weed Story

Last summer our cadet turned 21 while he was overseas on Deployed Ops. We celebrated his birthday after he came home on leave, and one of the presents that he got from us was a bag full of single-shot bottles of Jeremiah Weed.

My wife and I had been at the grocery store, and when we were walking past the liquor department, they had a basket of little bottles of Weed all marked at the clearance price of 2 bottles for $1. I guess that not having an Air Force base within 400 miles of here, there wasn't much of a demand for it. So, knowing the Weed story, we grabbed a bunch of them as a gag gift for him. He still hasn't tried any of it, and the bottles are all safe here at home in his old room. He can take them with him to UPT.

Stealth, if he gets the flu when he gets home, Weed works just as good as Nyquil!:shake:

Lucy, Weed is never something you want to mix, and nor do you want to drink it warm. It needs to stay in the freezer.

Look at Weed like any other alcohol, when you pay 10 bucks for the biggest bottle, it is going not to be on par with Gentleman Jack or Bulleit Bourbon. Makers Mark it is not!

However it is a huge tradition in the AF, and only Mike is the one who I know that likes it!

Weed Fan Here

Something about those Mikes...because my wife and I like the Weed, and so do my parents (another Mike.) We drink a shot for celebration (USAFA playing or winning a football game, the Giants winning the World Series, finding the TV remote after searching for 20 minutes, etc.) It is sweeter than regular bourbon and we mix it into many bourbon drinks. For example: One shot Weed, One shot bourbon, juice of 1/2 lemon, juice of 1/2 small orange, 1/2 oz triple sec, over ice in a highball glass; or try it on the rocks with some club soda and a twist of lemon.

Those interested in hearing the real, first-hand account of how Jeremiah Weed became an AF Fighter community tradition need to make their way over to the AF Fighter Mafia's Pentagon XMas party (which in itself is nearly as notorios as Jeremiah Weed). There, you'll get to meet the actual man responsible for nearly 40 years of AF fighter aviators losing brain cells to this nasty beverage (now works on the Air Staff as a civilian, like some others I know ). He gives the full story to a hushed and awe struck crowd as part of the official ceremony. Be forewarned: Jeremian Weed virgins WILL share a round with him...

OR,

You can get his story here...

BTW, check out the advertisement for the Dos Gringos on the bottom of the page, as they are also becoming a standard AF Fighter community tradition.

And if you were lucky enough to have been at THIS year's Fighter Mafia XMas Party, Trip lead us all in song, and premiered several new songs from their next album (The song about the Thunderbird pilot was HILARIOUS, I think the title was "I'm always looking right...").

Soesterberg 1982

Christcorp, just curious if you remember any of your "F-15 Buds" from Soesterberg as my brother was an F-15 pilot there in 1982.

That sounds pretty good. I found someone I know who's drunken the stuff and they say it's meant to be drunk a lot in a short period of time to get wasted. A shot or two tastes like crap but starting with the 3rd or 4th it starts to get a lot better. I asked if that's cuz you're already drunk and their answer is not yet but you will be very shortly after the 4th or 5th...So how many shots does Bullet nail down at this infamous party?
