Anybody have recommendations on boots and/or low quarters for Citadel cadets? Also, best place to purchase (best price, free shipping, free return, etc.).

Thanks!

The best dress shoes to get are Florsheims or Bostonians. There are lots of different varieties made by each company, but as long as they are black and don't have any design on the toe then they will be fine. I have one pair of each brand and I bought them online and had them shipped here. The advantage to these shoes is that they are pretty close to inspection-ready when they come out of the box. Other shoes, like Bates, are solid but take a little more effort to get started.

I'm not contracted, so I don't use my boots too often. I bought boots made by Bates and purchased them from an Army/Navy store. I've heard that there are other brands that may be better, so it may be better to talk to a contracted cadet or to a current serviceman about the best types of boots to wear.

How early do you think we should buy the boots & shoes to break them in?

Hi,

I too had this among my many other questions. For what it is worth, The Citadel Store provided the following for consideration:

For Shoes:
Enter style number, 834-6027 for males, or 534-6047 for females

For Boots:
Enter style number E02450

Best wishes:smile:

I got mine mid-summer and wore them around some. I wouldn't worry too much about breaking them in. More than anything, I think it just takes time getting used to wearing those type of shoes every day.

I did the same for the boots. Honestly, unless you're contracted you won't wear them very much. I think we wore them only once or twice during Hell Week.

I would just try to get yourself in the best physical shape and mentally prepare yourself for knob year.

I know this is a kind of old forum but I had a similar question. I was looking for boots to get for the Citadel and I found these Under Armor boots I like. They look the same to me as the ones I saw on the Knob that I pre-knobbed with, but I'm no expert. They seem to meet all of the requirements of the Citadel, but can anybody verify that?

BTW: While Cadets before did not wear their boots hardly ever, they now have a thing called ACU Thursday where the entire Corps is permitted to wear their ACU uniform. So for new cadets, if this practice continues, you'll be wearing your boots around about once a week.
