Ok soI want to get my file completed around September-October. The thing is I'm taking some relevant courses in the fall, namely Calculus 2 and General Chem. Can I update my file after I've completed it with new academic information?

Absolutely!! You have a good plan. Complete your file early and then keep updating it with anything significant. They will ask you for your 7th semester transcripts anyway.

I agree with JAM. It would be to your advantage to have your file completed as early as possible. Completing your profile quickly shows ambition and interest in the Academy. You will always be able to update your profile with relevant information.

How early do they start looking over applicants? I am wondering because if I complete my file early then wait to update it with important things then find out that I am rejected before I update it, then I would be in trouble.

Admissions are based on a rolling basis armyman736. Its not generally a one shot deal that they look at it, you're done. You should complete it as soon as possible and update as you can. Couple reasons for that -
1) it shows you're motivated and shows you are serious - this will also be beneficial for you when you go in for your congressional interviews as it will translate to you being serious and not wasting their time
2) you get it off your back...big deal when its senior year and all your friends are obsessing over college apps and you can kick back and relax
3) if something comes up, especially when it comes to DoDMERB or items sometimes needing clarification, you won't be rushing to meet deadlines, keeps stress level down
4) I can't verify this, but I've heard from admissions counselors/cadets while I was at SLS last year, but the bar for the WCS (whole candidate score) keeps getting raised as more and more candidates complete their files, increasing the competitiveness, to be granted an appointed as the year progresses; for sure, it doesn't go down. If you're borderline, its best to get your application in as soon as possible so that it can get in front of as many boards as possible and make an earlier cut

They start looking over applicants early. Those who attend SLS get a look in July/August and LOA's start going out.
It's basically done on a rolling basis. The early bird gets the worm.
Do not worry about being rejected before you get to update it.

You will update your file with any significant accomplishment - i.e. leadership positions such as class officer, team captain etc; you become a member of a varsity sports team; you earn your Eagle scout; you get elected to NHS; you earn a significant award.

Any updates should be sent to the admissions office to your Regional Commander. I think now on the web portal there is space to submit updates.

One final thought - contact with admissions is good. Updating your file and then following up to make sure it made your file is an excellent *excuse* to contact admissions and your Regional Commander. Don't be a pest but making contact and showing the *love* can be beneficial.
