West Point has wrestling and full contact football. What are some of the choices the cadets have at the AFA?

Thanks, just wondering.

The answer depends on the semester. Right now we have soccer, xc, softball, flickerball, handball, and basketball. In past years we've had racquetball instead of basketball, but they changed it this year. In the fall, iirc, flag football, rugby, ultimate frisbee, tennis, basketball, and possibly wallyball (similar to volleyball, but on a much smaller court).

Wrestling and full contact football are IC (Intercollegiate sports). There are club sports available as well as Intramurals. My son is a c4c and he is playing on the Rugby club team. They had a meeting after BCT and that is how he got the info and joined.

At West Point, they have those as intramural sports. I was just wondering if they had those as intramural sports at USAFA. Also, did youre son play Rugby in HS? Did he play football? How does he like Rugby? If he played football, is the transition hard? Is it an IM sport or is it an IC sport? Do they travel?

I have never played Rugby, but it looks like a pretty cool sport. Thanks for your help.

devilDog,

I do not think full contact football is an intramural sport at USAFA. Wrestling might be I am not sure. My DS did not play rugby in high school he played football and wrestled. He tried the walk on tryout for football at the academy and did not make it. He immediately jumped to rugby and really enjoys it. The transition from football and wrestling to rugby from the physical standpoint has not been hard. Learning a new sport has been challenging but he seems to have picked it up quickly. He got to travel to west point when the football team went there and play Army last fall and they won Go Falcons!! He also attended the football game while there. The rugby team has an A, B and development team. The A team is now apart of a collegiate league and will play Arizona st, Utah, BYu and others in the spring. They also play games in Fall, they played Navy last fall when the football teams got together. Check out their web site at usafarugby.com for lots of info.
I hope this is helpful

I am going to send you a PM. Please respond when you get a chance. Thanks.

one more intramural

Boxing was left out of the original list of intramurals. I believe boxing is offered only in the fall.

do they segregate the teams/sports?

For some sports, yes. Such as flag-football, rugby, and boxing (those last two are only offered to the guys). I'm pretty sure everything else is co-ed.

Is golf an option? As a cadet, do you have any access to Eisenhower?

Cadets have access to the golf course but it is not an intramural.

In the past flag-football and rugby have been offered for guys and girls but were segregated. This year they dropped women's rugby probably do to lack of participation. All other sports are coed

If you're on the triathlon club and attending practices, would that count as an intrmural or is an additional one required?

The Tri team recently was granted status to exempt them from intramurals (like Army & Navy do for their triathletes).
But, the Tri team at USAFA is also a club, and not everyone in the club is on the competition team; I think those who are in the club but not competing still have to do intramurals.
