Has DoDMERB site being down slowed appointments?

I am just curious if the site being down for over 3 weeks has caused a slowdown in appointments to all academies, or if the pace of appointments at this time is what is normal for mid February? Thanks!

DS's remedial (broken hand) was received 3 weeks ago by DoDMERB. We recieved a letter from DoDMERB saying DS was qualified. USAFA portal showed that he is qualified medically. They are working around the problem.:thumb:

Not always.

DS's remedial was received and posted by DodMerb in mid December. Just found out yesterday that the academies never picked up this information, so no action has been taken on his waiver.

At this point, it is probably a good idea to confirm rather than assume.

Glad things worked out well for your son! :thumb:

The website being down has NO correlation to offers of appointment:thumb:

MOSDad,
What is the best way to confirm that the academy has received DoDMERB update? My son contacted his regional officer and he said that DoDMERB has not updated his status and it may be awhile, but I have confirmation that it was emailed to appropriate person at USNA and that is all that was necessary.

Folks - you are dealing with two separate entities that - in a perfect world - mesh together.

It never hurts to be proactive and follow up, regardless of website operation.
If you receive notice that you are qualified - esp after a remedial then it's good to follow up with admissions.
The admissions portals should agree with the information you have been given from DoDMERB. Anytime they don't agree after a week or two then be proactive!! Follow up!!
If you have a qualified letter from DoDMERB and the academy does not (or says they do not) - then fax it to your admissions officer.

Where on the USNA admissions portal will it indicate medical status. All that I see is the section that refers you to DoDMERB?

I know that the qualification has been received because it was confirmed via a conversation with admissions.

Thanks in advance.

Well, I don't know. I haven't looked at it in years but I *thought* it was on there when my daughter applied.

You have a confirmation with admissions, good.
Anyone else who has not had a conversation with admissions concerning their medical status should follow up with admissions. If you want an appointment, chase it!!

Again, the website being down has NO correlation to offers of appointment...Medical status has NO correclation to an offer of appointment at THIS time:thumb: An offer of appointment at this time means that an applicant has been selected by Admissions:thumb:

My DS took care of two remedials for a spondilolysis injury he received playing football his junior year. (He was a starter his senior year with no problems). He had an additional MRI done and saw an orthopedic surgeon to check him out. The doctor was a retired flight surgeon who said he was ready to serve. This was in December. DodMERB received the paperwork January 3rd. They finished it on January 18th. I have been calling DodMERB and West Point weekly to get this information to the appropriate person ("the doctor") at West Point. I have been told that there are computer problems and this information is still not available to the folks at West Point. Last I heard, a CD containing the data would be mailed and should arrive this week. Last night we received a call from our state liaison saying that the class of 2015 was full and my DS would probably not get an appointment. How can this happen? His dad is class of 1984! He lost this opportunity because of some computer problems? I'm very disappointed in the whole process...

Any idea when the DoDMERB website will be back up? Also, is it true that the class of 2015 is pretty much filled?

When in doubt, you may always contact the admissions office:thumb:

DoDMERB follow up

My son has recently been deemed qualified after two remedials. He is board certified and has a nomination. It seems that everything is in order, and we now just have to wait.

Mr. Mullen has assured us that the website being down hasn't affected appointments, and I am certain that they are mailing paper copies of everything. After all, this process went on for years without the Internet!

Is there really any need for my son to fax his DoDMERB qualification letter to USNA admissions? He doesn't want the people in the admissions office to think that he is trying to side-step the normal flow of information. But, he doesn't want to be neglectful and fail to follow up, if necessary.

What's the consensus? To fax or not to fax?

Momma - The correct answer is: Do whatever makes you feel comfortable. DoDMERB and the agencies are transmitting information back and forth successfully:thumb:

Thanks!

Mr. Mullen, if you say info is flowing back and forth efficiently, then that's enough for my son (and me!). We won't worry about faxing the info.

We have the utmost respect for you and the entire DoDMERB process. My son is the candidate from SC whose dermatologist gave him your address when he had some Accutane questions. Your prompt response, advice, and expertise were so appreciated! Now that he has the official qualification and knows that it is being sent to the USNA, he can just move on to the last step in the process: waiting for that big fat envelope!
