I just found out that I am qualified but not selected. What is the next step? What are the chances of getting an appointment after this?

Call your regional commander. Ask him.

Probably it means you are too far down on the qualified list - A LOT of people would have to reject their appointments for you to be selected.

IF West Point is your #1 choice then call admissions - talk to them and ask what you need to do to be selected - if not for this year then for next year. Good Luck!

It's only mid-Feb. How do you know you were not selected?

Yeah, Just a Mom is correct. If West Point is your number 1 choice, I strongly advise you to keep in close contact with the admissions staff. I have kept in close contact with my admissions staff, calling and emailing them at least about 4-5 times a month. If you show the interest and the determination to get in, they will help you a lot throughout the process. Also, if you bother them enough for them to remember your name out of the how many number of applicants, then that is definitely a boost to your application. Every single time I contacted them they helped me tremendously and gave me quick replies. My regional commander even called me to ask me about a few questions. I know for a fact that they remembered my name and in the end I was offered an appointment. Keep updating your file, get things in as quick as possible (for example, when they sent out the email regarding 7th semester grades, I had my guidance counselor fax it within 20 minutes after receiving the email), and bother them with questions and show interest.
Good luck!

I am at west point on an overnight visit. I met with the football coach and he took me to meet with the football admissions coordinator guy. He pulled up my file and said that I was qualified not selected and that this years class is basically closed.

No offense to the coach, but I doubt he knows what's going on in admissions outside of the people the football team recruits. Granted I too don't really know what's going on, but I did receive an appointment just last week from the wait list, so I would say that the class is still open and will be for a few months. A lot of appointments go out even in March

PDB88, I understood that only those with LOA's or offers of appointments could schedule an overnight visit, so how are you at an overnight visit if you think you haven't been selected?
Since May 1 is the deadline for offers to be accepted, it seems there is still alot of time for the class of 2015 to fill. Hang in there!:thumb: Talk to your regional admissions officer.

I scheduled a day visit and then my r.c offered to upgrade it to an overnight. And this was what the admissions coordinator that works with the football team told me after going through my file, not a coach. I'm meeting with someone from admissions tomorrow as part of my visit, but from what I've been told it doesn't look promising. Thank you all though, and if it doesn't work out this year, what is the earliest date to apply next year?

It sounds like the football recruiting class is full and the coach is dropping you.
Are you working with the RC for recruited athletes?

Have your application review tomorrow. It will be with the officer of the day and could be any RC on staff. It will be very helpful to you. Write down all the questions asked here and ask them tomorrow.
Finally, if you really want West Point - even if you are not recruited - make that clear.

I didn't make it in after high school, but when I enlisted and now I'm in through the soldier's admissions program. If you really want something, don't quit. Make a good impression and you'll be surprised at what happens.

All,

Confirmed with the RC,

"the football admissions coordinator guy" does not speak for the admissions office.

For all prespective applicants to USMA, just remember that your Regional Commander is the only reliable source of information.

^Agreed!!!
Unless he is the Officer dedicated to recruited athletes. Not sure that is who we are talking about here.

Also, if you were being recruited and talking to a coach and get 'dropped' by that coach...... IF you REALLY want to go to West Point then follow up with the Regional Commander for your region - NOT the recruited athlete officer.
Do all you can to get your file looked at again.

MAJ Childers -West Point Recruited Athlete Admissions Officer
& Congressional Liaison. I also think he works directly with your Regional Admissions Officer as well.
