Repeat urinalysis

I got a letter from DODMERB last week saying I need to repeat the urinalysis. After reading the threads in this board, I discovered others with the same code, which is for protein in urine.

So my question is, right now is track season and I can't really miss like 2-3 days of practices without incurring my coach's wrath unless I'm injured or something. Will the running (I'm a distance runner) really affect the results that much? My urinalysis appointment is for Friday morning. If I eat only bread and pasta and no protein like eggs or meat, can that compensate for the running? I will be drinking a ton of water too.

Have you considered explaining this to your coach? Most people are EXTREMELY understanding if it is for a reason such as yours.

My son was in the same boat with soccer practice. He worked around it by rescheduling his repeat urinalysis to Monday, and missed just Friday's practice. That gave him Fri, Sat, and Sun to chill and drink water, and the retest went just fine. You may want to consider changing your Friday appointment...

All the previous advice is right on target:thumb:

I talked to my coach but he won't excuse me from practices. He has a strict policy that every missed practice equals sitting out a meet. So I am going to reschedule the urinalysis for a Monday following a weekend. I know I have a full scholarship riding on the outcome of this test, but on the other hand, I also have an obligation to be there for my teammates especially since I'm the varsity co-captain and anchor for the 4x800 relay team.

I normally drink about 3 liters a day during track season. Should I be drinking more than that in the days before the urinalysis? If so, how much?

Sorry to hear your coach isn't a bit more flexible considering the circumstances. I hope having the test on a Monday works out for you. Wishing you success!:thumb:

The guidance is to reduce vigorous activity for 3 days prior and drink lots of water. There is no set requirement beyond that. "If" you do not pass this next test, you need to send me an email:thumb:

:thumb: Thank you to everyone who gave me great advice! I took the previous weekend off and just sat around doing nothing but guzzling water and reading. Then on Monday, when I was done with the urinalysis, the nurse who took my sample told me it came up negative for protein.

My DODMERB account now says case closed, so I'm assuming I don't need to do any further remedial testing?

"Closed" means the results were SENT to DoDMERB. Cuta nad paste your posting; provide complete name and last 4 SSN; send to Larry.Mullen@dodmerb.tma.osd.mil. I can assist U better from there:thumb:
