I'm going to be a Marine Option at Auburn next year (incoming freshman). Is anybody heading there next year? Anybody looking for a roommate? It would be optimal to find another Marine Option, but other ROTC's would work.

I'm going to Auburn next year. I'm still waiting to hear back from the February board, about the scholarship.
If I don't receive one, I plan on joining as a college program either second semester or sophomore year, just to give myself some time to settle into college life.
Finding housing has been a big problem for me. What do you know about MO at Auburn?

Get in touch with your unit, they will tell you who else is going to Auburn on a scholarship.

Check Facebooks LINK Roommate pages

That is the best advice.

The AROTC at my sons school reserve rooms for all the freshman cadets if you let them know you want them to, scholarship or not. Big advantage is they get single rooms in pretty good accommodation that is usually VERY hard to get for freshman.

ROTC at my DS's school gave him contact info for the other 3 scholarship students, they have been facebooking/texting/plotting ever since. A SAF parent has a kid who may be going to Alabama, we parents linked them up, he is joining in that conversation (I think). I am hoping for a bunch more scholarship students out of this board. DS also posted on Alabama facebook roommates-no hits so far.

While visiting many ROTC Det's - We heard over and over again that a cadet's schedule makes rooming with a non-cadet problematic.

Any other Roll Tider-ers out there?

I agree with gojack it can be an issue, because ROTC cadets get up O'dark thirty for PT, thus if the roommate is a night owl it can become an issue.

That being stated, our DS had no problem with his non-cadet roommates... they respected the fact that 2x a week he would be getting up at 5-5:30 for PT. They were quiet after a certain hour, and he was quiet when he woke up so not to disturb them.

It really does come down to a respect issue. Our DS opted for his 1st 2 yrs not to live with ROTC people. He wanted to experience college life. It is now that he is living with ROTC cadets (off campus) because these are the people he has become close friends with after being there for 2 yrs.

I've contacted the unit and they are going to try to get me together with another Marine Option, but they don’t currently have the official roster.

I have also contacted Auburn housing. They could not guarantee anything, but they believe that like previous years they will try to match ROTC students (not necessarily of the same branch).

If Auburn is like most Universities there will be a lot of room juggling
as soon as it is allowed. Usually best to make the best arrangement
you can and try to improve your situtation when you get the chance.

If you end up with some cadets from other branches, you can always ask
for extra credit for diversity training.:biggrin::biggrin:

Room Change Requests. There are two room change days at the beginning
of Fall Semester. The dates are August 26 and September 9. On a
first-come, first-served basis on these dates, residents may come to Burton
Hall to inquire about spaces available for an immediate move. If space is
not available where you wish to live, you will be placed on a waiting list for
a move at the beginning of Spring Semester. Except in extreme circumstances such as irresolvable roommate conflicts, no moves for Fall Semester will be permitted after the second room change day. There will be two room change days at the beginning of Spring Semester as well. Important dates are listed in the calender on our website and residents are also reminded of these dates and other important items through Tigermail.
