January 4, 2011 AROTC Board

By the way he told us he has made his school choice.(Rat Mass won out over Rookdom) Which means he is willing to turn down a scholarship

VMI is a WONDERFUL school!!! Tell him to reserve judgment, though, until the CC letter arrives.

Just checked the website. No change in status. DS is bummed. Me too. Must be a "destiny" thing.

Me and my son are pretty bummed here too; still getting the selected for an interview message as well. My son was told by the PMS he interviewed with, and also his first choice school's ROO that he scored well on the interview and was a strong candidate for a 3 year scholarship. We ratcheted down our expecations considerably figuring it was their way of telling us we probably wouldnt see a 4 year scholarship but then when the DoDMERB packet came in mid-January we thought maybe he was being looked favorably upon by the board.

At this point, we have all but figured we wont be seeing anything from this board. Like so many others here, we are putting our trust in the Lord that things will work out in the manner He determines is best. Plan B (attending his 1st choice school and focusing on grades and impressing ROTC cadre) is still a viable option for us, albeit not as economical. If my son doesnt get a 4 year scholarship, maybe its because someone else, who otherwise wouldnt be able to afford college, got one instead.

PS - It wouldnt be so bad if, in between ROTC status page refreshes, my check of my brokerage account (the source of son's college tuition) would have given me better news this week. Nothing like bad news on both fronts to put me in a less than joyous mood.

Patentesq,

Congratulations on your nomination, I wish you the best of luck.

I've always told my boys, you can't hit a home run if you don't swing for the fences.

There is no doubt your son will be a great West Point Cadet if he chooses that route.

It will be interesting to see how many scholarships are awarded to the schools you listed considering the current budget mess.

A five mile run...impressive...now go get the Tylenol.

I am pretty bummed here too...haven't really told DS that status changes have been happening. His first choice is a very moderately priced in-state school - he just wants ROTC so much. He plans to attend there without a scholarship - but I hoped so much for an easier road for him, financially speaking :) I am a semi-optimist, so I haven't given up hope yet. Trying. To. Stay. Positive.

Ksmom and WinterHater (and all others):

The Army said today (http://www.armytimes.com/news/2011/02/defense-chiarelli-warning-on-end-strength-022411/) that it is not cutting officers. I really think that CC is just being overly cautious in view of the budget uncertainty. I expect that once the budget situation is resolved, there will be good news for a LOT more folks!!!!!! Keep your eye on the budget battle.

My DS was awarded a scholarship off of the October board. As I recall, he received the DoDMERB message the first day the news broke on SAF. There were many on this board who didn't get the notification the first day and were very disappointed. As the days went on, many of those "bummed out" people began getting the good news and also received the DoDMERB change message. I also recall lots of talk about if results were released in alphabetical order. I believe we later deduced it was all random. So, my recommendation is hang in there, keep checking the 4-year scholarship site over the next few days, and many of you will receive the good news you are waiting for!

KSMom, right there with you.

Sleep well everyone. Tomorrow is yet another day with a new set of questions, challenges and victories. DS is still unaware, I am afraid he might just hate me for keeping this from him, but momma lion just wants to protect cub:redface:a little while longer, just in case.

Take care.

Just checked the website, still no change. I guess its time to just start looking towards the next board. We should be able to get a loan and maybe apply for a three year scholarship next year.

February 25th

The day has just begun, I'm giving it until noon before I throw in the towel.

Good morning. Sleep? What is that, up most of the night, but I was good and stayed off the computer. DS will be on the computer at school today so he'll know what's going on by 2pm, just praying between now and then something changes for the better on his status.

Sg1fan93, noon is only half way thru the day:wink: Yes, being realistic is good, but don't throw in the towel until we hear from Clarkson or another source that the updates are completed and the ROOs are allowed to contact their winners. Hoping for good news for ALL of our forum applicants.

Take care.

HOLY TOLEDO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DS's status just changed to:

Funny how things work out. DS has no change but has something else in his life that is more important at the moment - hockey play-offs, just got the Ok to play again after 4 weeks off the ice. We are rejoicing for this other status change.

Talk about a roller coaster ride!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fellow Parents: I desperately need advice right now. If I text my DS and he gets suspended from school for using cell phone in school, will this hurt his chances of gaining admission to an SA????

Can you stop by school and ask to speak with him? I know we discussed wanting to see that look on their face....

Ohio has good advice

Call the school and tell them what's happened and see if they can work it out.
Always Ask.

DEFINITELY DO NOT TEXT WHILE IN SCHOOL!!!! The advice of others is great... GO TO THE SCHOOL, PULL HIM OUT OF CLASS FOR A MINUTE.

The sun will come out tomorrow....

If I were a betting gal I would say at some point your DS will not bummed and things will turn around :)

Like they are saying- it's a process. Who knows their formula for working it out but we've all certainly tried to guess!

Patentesq!!! Open mouth insert foot!

Yippee skippee for your DS! And you!

Told ya so told ya so :)
