German Military Proficiency Badge

Yes, only bummer is that you cannot wear it on a Navy uniform.

Really? I could be wrong but I am pretty sure the West Point cadets who have earned it- wear it on their uniform.
Tho maybe when they get commissioned they can't wear it on their Army uniform.

I recently qualified and was awarded Gold, and was just wondering how common/popular it was. I am currently in ROTC but am awaiting an appointment to USNA and was hoping to be able to wear it

Is this what you mean????:

Ein Volk; Ein Reich:eek:

I have some foreign decorations but I didn't go out of my way to get them, just ducked a lot and was in the wrong place at the right time. Never heard of this for USNA although many might qualify according to the specifications. Maybe they just have to put in for it!! Certain foreign awarded decorations can not be displayed if not authorized as per DoD.

Army members can wear it on their uniform. Navy cannot. Different regulations, unfortunately.

I have seen a few people at the academy with the award this year. Most of the people who do get have done an exchange semester up at west point where they have a German Army officer who is able to sign you off on the quals.

From what I have been able to gather, it is permissible to wear the award while you are at the academy but you can't take it with you when you graduate and go out to the fleet.

Thanks for making me feel old...I got that sucker 10 years ago now...

It's a nice badge, but foreign jump wings are much sexier. And since you can only wear one foreign badge...

If it isn't in Navy Uniform Regulations (which it isn't), it is not permissible to wear. The Superintendent has authority to authorize insignia for MIDN, but he cannot "add" a foreign badge to a uniform (unless he has had a chat with the CNO) when Uniform Regulations specifically list which foreign badges, ribbons, and medals can be worn. UNIREGs is applicable to all Navy personnel.
