....the younger ones chances on getting into the Naval Academy? I was wondering if anyone had any insight into this situation. My older son is in his second year and one of his younger brothers eats and sleeps everything Navy.

The younger has applied to STEM and we were told by admissions that they only want maybe 2 kids from each Congressional district and geographic location was an important part of selection. It seems they want kids that maybe have limited knowledge and or familiarity of the USNA. Could his familiarity with the Academy(having an older brother enrolled, visiting on several occasions, attending sporting events...) hurt his chances getting into STEM or Summer Seminar?

Does the USNA cross reference and check to see if older brothers or sisters are enrolled or are alumni?

Thanks for any words of wisdom.

In general, it makes no difference. There are many cases siblings and even twins at the Academy at the same time. It all comes down to qualifications.

The younger sibling might get a VERY SLIGHT bump in admissions because he/she has some insight into life at a SA -- this is similar to the bump you get if a parent is military. On the vast scheme of things, it's not much -- it's not like the legacy advantage of civilian colleges.

I was at 2010 STEM and met several other future applicants that had siblings at USNA.

At least for STEM, having a sibling at USNA is probably not really a factor.

I'm from SC District 6 and met two others also From SC (different Districts though). Texas had the greatest showing. I recalled one guy from Alaska, one from North Dakota, and another from Wyoming (he had an AFA hat :yllol:- we knew what to do with him).

But I was warned by a mid that led one of the groups that I might be at a disadvantage for acceptance to NASS simply because I have visited USNA and stayed inside Bancroft (applied, still waiting).

I think having a sibling helps in that a younger sibling is more aware of what it means to attend the Academy but I also think how that sibling is succeeding at the Academy is part of the equation.

I've seen no evidence to suggest how sibling A does at USNA affects sibling B's admissions chances/status.

From our experience. Sibling "A" acceptance or status in the Brigade has no relevance to sibling "B" acceptance. We can only wish it were so. Second time around for "B". GoNavy is correct as is 1985. Siblings know what is expected but still the process is daunting and they rise and fall on their own.:thumb:
