What is Platoon Leadership Course?

My son's Marine recuiter stated today that if he does not get the scholarship, he could sign up for PLC and it will pay 100% of his tuition. Having said that, his recruiter has been wrong on many other things. Can someone explain PLC to me and what it covers via tuition?

We lloked into this program until my son decided on the Army.

PLC is a program where the student does not do ROTC during the school year. They will attend what is basically OCS over the summer. They can opt. to do this all in one summer or split it over 2 summers. Once they have completed the training, whether it is done all at once or split, they continue in school, graduate and can commission if they choose to and have passed the training course (Not easy by the way). They are not obligated to serve UNLESS;

They can apply for a couple different tuition assistance programs, these programs do not take effect until they have completed at least the first summer training program. You will need to check the Marine Corps website to get the actual figures. They give you a nice amount but from what we researched it is not usually enough to cover all the tuition costs and it doesn't start the freshman year. If the student chooses to accept any money they will then be obligated to serve a certain number of years upon passing the course and commissioning.

One thing about the PLC program, it is the largest pipeline for new Marine Corps officers. PLC has it's advantages, the student does not have to worry about ROTC during the school year, they can focus entirely on their studies.
