A while back, my son received a letter which stated that he was board certified. I understand that means that he is academically and physically qualified. Now, he has received his letter from DoDMERB stating that he is medically qualified. He also has a nomination.

If he has already received a letter stating that he is board qualified, then that means that the board has already met on him, right? Will it be necessary for them to meet on him again, or what?

I'd love to hear what might happen next from some of you who've been through this before!

Thanks so much!

He's done everything he can do; gotten everything he needs to have gotten, touched every base. Now you wait...

His job is to stay healthy, stay in shape, and enjoy his Sr. year.

Your's is to worry.:bang:

not alone

Rest assured that you won't be alone with your worries; the forum is a great place to hang out with fellow worriers/mail stalkers!

Board

We have become very good at the waiting game this year (waiting on SAT scores, waiting on nominations, waiting on medical qualification)! My son is handling the waiting much better than I am!

My biggest questions is this: will the board meet on him again, or did they take care of all that business when they sent out the letter stating that he is board certified?

Thanks!

I also got this letter and contacted my RD about it. From my understanding it basically means that they reviewed his profile, they found him to be qualified i. those aspects, but he will not be getting an LOA. However now that the noms are in he board must go back and take a second look at those qualified with a nom. So to answer your question, yes they will be reviewing his file again because he has a nom. I'm i. He same situation and his is killing me haha!

Hope this helped.

My DS is in the same boat....just waiting. I was discussing with my husband & we both agree that in all of our life we've never found waiting for something to be so hard as this has been....not getting married, birth of our children...nothing. I think it's harder on us, as parents, because we are older and know what life has in store for us after high school.

There is no need for the Board to meet again. Board certified = Scholastically qualified.

Scholastically qualified = SAT/ACT, ECs/leadership, class rank, course work, grades = Whole Person Score (WP ....sorta like WP/Whistle Piggy )

Nothing has happened to change the WP score, thus no need for the Board to meet.

3Qed = Scholastic Qualified/WP score = NOW able to compete for an appointment.

Lastly ...

3Qed + Nomination = POSSIBLE APPOINTMENT (depending upon ranking and decisions of those who might be ahead of your score ...in both your District AND then in the National Pool)***

3Qed + Principal Nomination = JACKPOT! BINGO!! THICK BROWN ENVELOPE!!! I DAY PREPARATION!!!! BUBBLE WRAPPING!!!!!

*** This stage may or may not lead to an offer of appointment.

Momma,
Likely the board will not review your son's app package again. Updates, like better SAT/ACT scores, etc will be added in by staff members in Admissions.

The board has thousands of apps to review, so once they assign a WCS (Whole Candidate Score) to a kiddo, they don't talk about them again unless something MAJOR comes up.

Picture if you will (this is how an Admissions Counselor described it to me) a giant spreadsheet with candidates scores and nomination sources. Admissions will be shuffling candidates around, selecting someone off of Congressman XX's slate, maybe moving that candidate to another slate (Supe, ROTC, another MOC, VP if qualified, nominated to other slates) to allow them to select another candidate off of Congressman XX's slate......and so on and so on........ If there are several candidates (or more) off a Congressional slate with outstanding scores, they will be working the nomination sources to offer as many as possible nominations. On the other hand, if some MOC's slate is "weak", they will select the top candidate from that slate, offer a nomination, and the others will fall in the national pool as their scores reflect. When you factor in the "needs of the Navy", recruited athletes, it gets to be quite the tangled web. That is what is going on now in Leahy Hall, the home of Admissions. The board continues to review candidates and assign scores.

Also, some slates are doubtless incomplete. What I mean is, some candidates have not been reviewed by the board yet. After all, candidates had through today, I believe, to complete their applications. Admissions waits until they have the WCS for the nominees on each MOC's slate. So, you can be waiting even though your packet has been complete for months, simply because some other candidate does not finish theirs until today!

Frustrating, agonizing, it is all a true test of patience. A strong faith that things turn out the way they are supposed to and a solid back up plan are what you must rely upon at this juncture.

Good luck all!

Thanks!

Thanks so much for all of your advice and words of encouragement! It is an honor for my son to have come this far, and he has some great backup plans, just in case.

hey, Mom, I am a Dad in the same boat. DS has a nom, and appears to be 3Q (but we never got a letter). The waiting is killing me, though it doesn't seem to bother him at all.

I'm so glad you asked this question. My son also received a "board qualified" letter in January and has 2 nominations. We have updated his file with his 1st Semester transcript along with the Winter Sports & EC stuff that he is doing. All were in in early Feb.

I feel like all I think about is "when's the mailman coming?". Life is still going on but I can't stop thinking about the Service Academy stuff.

My son asks everyday when he gets home from practice - Did I get any mail?

Hopefully soon it will be a BFE....

With this grueling proccess of waiting, I have to thank W.P. for his (or her :)) entertainment on this forum. Were you appointed to this forum to lighten up things by the Board? Terms like "bubble wrap" and "Agony an the Ecstacy" have truly cracked me up.
